Articlehip Mela CAAA’s Fourth Placement Event Aims To Simplify CA Articleship Selection For Students and Firms
Chartered Accountants Association Ahmedabad (CAAA), one of the city’s oldest professional bodies, is preparing to host the fourth edition of its Articleship Mela on 3 July 2026 as part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations marking 75 years of service to the accounting profession.
The Articleship Mela is to be held at Gujarat Sports Club, coming at a time when the Chartered Accountancy profession is seeing growing demand for trained professionals with expertise in taxation, auditing, financial reporting, compliance and technology-driven advisory services.
Articleship forms an essential part of Chartered Accountancy training in India. Under the rules of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), students are required to complete practical training with practising chartered accountants or firms before they can qualify as CAs. For many students, finding the right firm and the right area of practice can be difficult because opportunities are often discovered through personal contacts or informal referrals.
The CAAA Articleship Mela was launched in 2025 to create a more organised process for both students and firms. The association says the initiative has grown steadily over four consecutive editions and has become a recognised event in Ahmedabad’s CA calendar.
Unlike a traditional recruitment fair, the event uses preference-based matching between firms and students. Students register their areas of interest, including audit, taxation, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and internal audit, along with preferred locations for training. Participating firms provide details about their requirements and preferred candidate profiles.
The information is then processed through a digital dashboard that prepares shortlists before the event begins. Students and firms can then meet for interviews during the mela itself.
Earlier editions attracted strong participation from both sides of the profession. According to figures released by organisers from previous editions, dozens of firms and more than a hundred students took part in interviews during a single day, reflecting the demand for a centralised placement process for articled assistants in Gujarat. The association believes such initiatives reduce uncertainty for students and improve hiring efficiency for firms.

Speaking about the latest edition, CA Dr Anjali Choksi, the first woman president of the Chartered Accountants Association, Ahmedabad, said:
“This is our fourth edition, and the momentum is stronger than ever. The continued trust that both firms and students place in the CAAA Articleship Mela is what has shaped it into a true institution. In our Platinum Jubilee year, we are building on that legacy to offer not just articleship placements, but a whole new ecosystem of support for the profession.”
Additionally, we will arrange excellent training for them. Right now, these students might know about Income Tax and GST in theory, but they do not know how to do the actual practical work. So, right here in this institution, we will give them a 10-day training course. This will help them start working in CA offices straight away.
This year’s edition is also being used to announce a wider set of professional initiatives that extend beyond articleship recruitment.
“One of the new proposals focuses on paid assistants for CA firms. Smaller and mid-sized accounting firms across India have increasingly reported shortages of trained staff as compliance work, regulatory reporting and advisory assignments continue to expand. CAAA plans to work with colleges to help firms recruit candidates who can support professional practices in non-articleship roles.”
“Another area of focus is artificial intelligence. Accounting firms worldwide are adopting AI tools for document review, data analysis, compliance checks and risk assessment. The Ahmedabad association has already organised multiple sessions on AI applications for chartered accountants during 2026 and now plans to conduct AI literacy programmes and specialised workshops for companies, institutions and professional organisations outside the accounting sector.”
“Furthermore, this Articleship Mela is just the beginning. We are also going to host a Placement Mela. We are doing this because it is hard to find enough articles right now. So, we need to hire people who have done B.Com and M.Com, as well as those who have cleared the CA Intermediate exams. There is a lot of unemployment in the market right now for these students. B.Com and M.Com graduates are struggling to find jobs. CA Intermediate students get stuck because they have not yet become full CAs, so they do not know what to do next. To help them, we are going to start a Placement Mela just like this one.”
CAAA also intends to increase collaboration with other professional bodies and industry groups in Gujarat. Such partnerships are expected to create opportunities for knowledge sharing and improve interaction between chartered accountants and professionals from law, management, technology and industry.
The association’s Platinum Jubilee year will include educational programmes, fellowship activities, cultural events and commemorative initiatives that look back at the organisation’s history while encouraging participation from younger professionals entering the field.
CA Bishan Shah, Chief Coordinator of the Articleship Mela, said the objective remains to improve compatibility between firms and students.
“We are eliminating randomness and introducing structure, so students are aligned with the right firms and firms meet candidates who are serious, focused, and matched to their requirements. Edition 4.0 takes that same philosophy and will extend it further to paid staff, to training, to collaboration. This is CAAA creating a full-circle ecosystem.”
The Chartered Accountants Association, Ahmedabad, was established in the early years after India’s independence and has grown alongside the profession in Gujarat. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, created under an Act of Parliament in 1949, today regulates one of the world’s largest communities of accounting professionals.
As the profession adapts to digital technologies, changing tax rules and increasing business regulation, initiatives that connect students with firms and provide practical exposure are becoming more important for future chartered accountants entering the profession.
