Blankets of Hope: ReNew’s 9th ‘Gift Warmth’ Edition Aims to Alleviate Winter Hardships

ReNew Energy Global Plc, a leading company in eco-friendly solutions, has kicked off the 9th edition of its ‘Gift Warmth’ initiative. The goal is to aid those struggling during the cold winter season, especially in North Indian states facing extreme weather conditions.
This year, ReNew has partnered with local authorities to distribute more than 200,000 blankets across states like Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, and Uttarakhand. The initiative will run until January to maximize its impact during the peak winter season, with 20,000 blankets already distributed in Gujarat.
Climate Crisis Impact:
Recent years have seen an increase in extreme cold conditions, particularly in North Indian states, affecting homeless individuals. Government data highlights the acute hardships people face during winters, leading to unfortunate deaths.
Distribution Strategy:
ReNew, in collaboration with government officials, plans to identify and support the most vulnerable in districts prone to cold waves. Distribution will occur at the district, tehsil, and village levels, with additional night drives for blanket distribution. The sourced blankets are from local small-scale businesses, aiming to boost the regional economy.

Vaishali Nigam Sinha, Co-Founder and Chairperson of sustainability, emphasized the worsening climate crisis, causing severe cold waves. She expressed pride in ReNew’s employees actively engaging in the initiative and working closely with local authorities for its success.
Evolution of ‘Gift Warmth’:
Initiated in 2015, the ‘Gift Warmth’ campaign envisions that ‘no one in India should suffer from cold.’ Over the years, it has adapted to address the needs of local communities during severe winters. ReNew has distributed 625,000 blankets to date and aspires to reach the ambitious goal of distributing 1 billion blankets to vulnerable sections by 2025.
