Chandrayaan-3’s Mission to the Moon:
India is getting ready for a remarkable event as Chandrayaan-3 aims to softly land its Vikram Lander along with the Pragyaan rover on the moon’s south pole. The journey has been exciting, but the most thrilling part is the 20 minutes when the lander will make its final approach and land gently on the moon.
How Chandrayaan-3 Will Land on the Moon
- Lift-Off and Orbit: The mission began with a powerful rocket sending Chandrayaan-3 toward the moon. After traveling a long way, it settled into the moon’s orbit.
- Separation: The Vikram Lander and Pragyaan rovers separated from the main part of the spacecraft. This was a big moment in the journey.
- Going Down: The Vikram lander started to move closer to the moon’s surface. It did this in a careful way, copying a successful strategy from a previous mission.
- Landing Preparation: The lander got ready to land vertically, like standing on its legs. But first, it had to slow down and control its movements.
- The Touchdown: The lander slowly descended and gently touched down on the moon’s surface. This was a very tricky part of the mission.
- Rover Time: The Pragyaan rover then came out from the lander and began to move on the moon. It had special tools and cameras to explore and send back pictures.
- Sending Pictures: The lander took pictures of the rover, and the rover took pictures of the lander. These pictures were sent back to India to share the excitement.
- Science Adventure: Both the lander and the rover could work for about 14 days on the moon, powered by sunlight. This was a chance to learn new things about the moon.
