EDII Case Competition 2026 Brings Classrooms to Life

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, under the aegis of the Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CREED), is organising ‘Case Competition 2026’ from January 5 to 7, 2026. EDII is widely known across India for its long-standing work in entrepreneurship education, training, and research. For over four decades, the institute has played a key role in shaping entrepreneurship policy, supporting start-ups, and training faculty and professionals who work closely with small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs. CREED, which functions within EDII, focuses mainly on strengthening research culture and improving teaching methods in entrepreneurship education.
Before this case competition, a Case Writing Workshop was organised on November 4 and 5, 2025, to impart learning on writing effective cases. Such workshops are important because case writing is a specialised skill. A well-written case study needs clear facts, real business challenges, and strong learning objectives. In many management classrooms, cases help students understand real-world problems better than textbooks alone. By conducting this workshop in advance, EDII ensured that participants were well prepared and could produce cases that meet academic and classroom needs.
For this competition, 70 case leads were received, out of which 49 have been accepted. This shows strong interest from researchers, faculty members, and scholars from different institutions. Case leads are usually short proposals that explain the idea, background, and learning value of a case. The selection of 49 leads suggests that EDII followed a careful screening process to maintain quality and relevance. From these accepted leads, 30 authors are participating in the case competition, presenting 23 cases in six sessions. This format allows enough time for detailed presentations, discussions, and feedback from experts.
The Case Competition aims to provide high-quality case studies as essential tools in the teaching and learning of entrepreneurship and management. In India, there has long been a need for case studies based on local businesses, start-ups, family enterprises, and social ventures. Many classrooms still rely on foreign cases, which do not always reflect Indian realities. Through this initiative, EDII aspires to establish a Case Unit to curate and disseminate high-quality, India-centric case studies that enhance the pedagogical skills of faculty and enrich the learning experience of students. A dedicated Case Unit can also help standardise quality, update cases regularly, and make them accessible to institutions across the country.
Dr Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, inaugurated the Case Competition 2026 and opined, “To create successful entrepreneurs, we need a curriculum that reflects real-life experiences. The Case Competition 2026 serves as a collaborative platform for researchers and scholars to transform business insights into powerful pedagogical tools.” His statement reflects a growing belief in education circles that learning must go beyond theory. Real business stories help students think critically, make decisions, and understand failure as well as success.
According to Dr Satyajit Majumdar, Distinguished Adjunct Professor, EDII and Chair of the competition, “Our goal is to enrich classroom experience with real-life experience. This competition is a step towards strengthening experiential learning in entrepreneurship education.” Experiential learning encourages students to analyse situations, debate options, and suggest solutions, much like real entrepreneurs do. Such methods are known to improve engagement and long-term understanding among students.
The submitted cases are being reviewed by Dr Satyajit Majumdar, Dr Amitabh Deo Kodwani, Professor at IIM Indore, and Dr Gordhan Kumar Saini, Professor at TISS Mumbai. All three reviewers bring strong academic and research backgrounds. Their involvement adds credibility to the competition and ensures that the cases meet high academic standards. Expert review also helps authors improve clarity, structure, and learning outcomes of their cases.
The event also features panel discussions and expert sessions, offering researchers valuable inputs into case writing and research. These sessions allow participants to learn from experienced academics, understand common mistakes in case development, and gain insights into publishing cases for wider use. Overall, Case Competition 2026 reflects EDII’s continued effort to strengthen entrepreneurship education in India by promoting research-driven, practical, and locally relevant teaching tools.
