NCC Cadets Take Tiranga Message to Villages Near Rashtriya Raksha University
NCC cadets of 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery at Rashtriya Raksha University, Lavad, Gandhinagar, have taken part in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day, distributing the National Flag among residents of nearby villages and holding poster-making activities on the country’s progress and future goals.
The programme brought the university’s NCC cadets into direct contact with people living around the campus. The cadets handed over flags to residents and urged them to display the Tricolour during the Independence Day celebrations.
The activity was conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant Colonel T.G. Rajesh, Commanding Officer, 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery, and Lieutenant (Dr.) Gaurav Singh Kushwah, Associate NCC Officer (ANO), 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery, Rashtriya Raksha University. Company Quartermaster Sergeant R Midhun Krishna and Corporal Hreeday Dave led the activities, along with participating NCC cadets from 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery.
The programme also included poster-making. Cadets used the activity to present themes linked to India’s development, achievements, aspirations and the country’s progress since Independence.
For the students involved, the programme placed the National Flag in a community setting rather than limiting the activity to the university campus. Residents of villages around Lavad were given an opportunity to take part in the Independence Day celebrations by displaying the Tricolour at home.
Har Ghar Tiranga was launched in 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, marking 75 years of India’s Independence. The Ministry of Culture is the nodal ministry for the campaign. Its central idea is to encourage citizens to bring the National Flag into their homes and develop a personal connection with the Tricolour.
The campaign has continued in the years since its launch. The Ministry of Culture said the 2025 edition saw 7.50 crore selfies uploaded with the National Flag and more than nine lakh Tiranga Volunteers taking part in activities. The campaign also included flag marches, concerts, exhibitions, art programmes and other public activities.
For 2026, the Ministry of Culture has listed Har Ghar Tiranga activities as part of the Independence Day period. Government records also show preparations for events such as a Tiranga concert and a cycle rally or electric two-wheeler rally linked to the campaign.
The National Flag carries specific rules for its display and handling. The Ministry of Home Affairs maintains the Flag Code of India, 2002, along with amendments made in 2021 and 2022. The ministry also publishes guidance on the National Flag and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
The rules matter during public campaigns because the National Flag must be treated with respect. Government guidance states that the flag represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of India and should hold a position of honour.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has also changed the way citizens take part in Independence Day activities. Instead of flag ceremonies being limited to government buildings, schools or public grounds, the campaign asks households and communities to display the Tricolour. This wider participation has made the National Flag a more visible part of Independence Day celebrations.
Rashtriya Raksha University provides a fitting setting for such an activity. Located at Lavad in Dehgam, Gandhinagar, the university is an Institution of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament, Act No. 31 of 2020. It operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and focuses on national security, police education, research and training.
The university also has a National Cadet Corps programme. Its NCC section lists the National Cadet Corps, its aims and its role in nation building among its areas of activity.
NCC training gives young people exposure to discipline, community work and responsibilities linked to citizenship. Activities involving residents can add a practical element to that training, allowing cadets to interact with people outside their regular academic and training environment.
The poster-making session at RRU added another element to the programme. Rather than focusing only on the flag itself, the cadets were asked to reflect on India’s development, achievements and aspirations. Such activities can give students a space to express how they view the country and its future through art and public participation.
The programme at Lavad comes as communities across India prepare for August 15. In 2026, Independence Day marks 79 years since India became independent in 1947, while the country observes its 80th Independence Day celebration.
At Rashtriya Raksha University, the participation of 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery’s NCC cadets has taken the Har Ghar Tiranga message beyond the university grounds and into nearby villages. The distribution of flags and the poster-making activity have connected the cadets with residents while keeping the National Flag at the centre of the programme.
