England Announces Squad for ICC Cricket World Cup

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently revealed its initial squad of 15 players for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India. The selection has raised some eyebrows as all-rounder Ben Stokes makes a come back, while promising young batter Harry Brook and star fast bowler Jofra Archer were left out.
Ben Stokes had initially retired from One Day International (ODI) cricket but has had a change of heart, confirming his return for the upcoming four-match ODI series against New Zealand. Interestingly, the same 15 players named for the New Zealand series will also make up the provisional World Cup squad.
Unfortunately, this means that Harry Brook won’t be making his maiden World Cup appearance, and Jofra Archer’s role will be limited to that of a travelling reserve.
England selector Luke Wright expressed the difficulty of making these tough decisions, emphasizing the depth and strength of English cricket. He also highlighted that there are other talented players knocking on the door for a spot in the squad.
Wright added, “The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again.”
It’s important to note that teams have until September 5 to formally submit their provisional World Cup squads to the ICC, and changes can be made up until September 28.

Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.
England’s World Cup campaign kicks off on October 5 against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Prior to the tournament, both teams will engage in a four-match ODI series as part of their preparations for this highly anticipated event.
