India Gate Basmati Rice Promotes Quality and Food Safety

On October 10, 2023, India Gate Basmati Rice, the world’s leading Basmati Rice brand under KRBL Limited, collaborated with the Eat Right India initiative, supported by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), to host the ‘Basmati Rice No Compromise’ public awareness program in Ahmedabad.

Dr. H. G. Koshia, the Commissioner of Food Safety, Food and Drugs Control Administration in Gujarat, delivered the keynote speech at the event. He praised this initiative as a significant step towards combating food adulteration and supporting farmers. The new regulations aim to ensure that consumers receive the quality they expect.

Starting from August 1, 2023, India Gate Basmati Rice has taken the lead in promoting healthier eating habits and raising awareness of food safety among consumers. The ‘Basmati Rice No Compromise Conclave, organized by KRBL in the presence of FSSAI officials and industry experts, was held in Ahmedabad.

Dr. Koshia highlighted India’s transformation from a food-deficient nation to a surplus producer. He emphasized the importance of upholding food standards and preventing adulteration, which remains a concern in the market.

Ayush Gupta, Business Head of KRBL Limited, commended the FSSAI for establishing identity standards for Basmati Rice. These regulations are expected to boost consumer confidence in the authenticity and safety of Basmati rice. For the first time, FSSAI has set identity standards for various forms of Basmati Rice, including brown Basmati and parboiled Basmati. These standards restrict non-Basmati grains to 15% in Basmati Rice, ensuring consumers receive genuine Basmati.

The standards cover key attributes of Basmati rice, such as its natural fragrance and absence of artificial additives. They also specify quality parameters, including grain size, moisture levels, and the presence of non-Basmati rice.

The ‘Eat Right’ initiative encourages informed food choices and healthier lifestyles.
