India Women Vs Bangladesh Women

India defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the opening Twenty20 International at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, powered by Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 35-ball 54, to take a 1-0 series lead.

Shafali Verma was caught leg before by Marufa Akter in the opening over, giving the visitors a difficult start in their 115-run chase. Three overs later, Jemimah Rodrigues followed her to the pavilion, slicing a delivery from Sultana Khatun back onto her stumps as India was reduced to 21 for 2 in just four overs.

But in the midst, the Indian vice captain and captain banded together to save the team.

For the third wicket, Harmanpreet and Smriti Mandhana put up a solid 70-run partnership to lay the groundwork for India’s triumph.

Mandhana jumped right into things. Even after losing Rodrigues, she didn’t back down and hit boundaries on two straight short deliveries from Akter. In the following over, she dealt with Khatun’s half-tracker similarly as India accelerated to 41 at the end of the powerplay.

In the middle overs, the pair resumed their strike rotation and scored singles and twos before Harmanpreet attacked Nahida Akter and clubbed her for two consecutive boundaries in the eleventh over. In the following over, Khat attempted to slog, almost ending her life.

The bowler, nevertheless, was unable to hold on to the leading edge. In the following over, she drove a six to Rabeya Khan before moving down the track.

India was well on its way to triumph even though Mandhana’s attempt to keep up the tempo with her partner backfired and she was stumped in the following over off Khatun’s bowling. Hampanpreet hit her second six in the seventeenth over to reach fifty and tie the game.

After being called in to bat earlier in the day, Bangladesh was limited to 114 for 5. Despite playing out a maiden first over from Pooja Vastrakar, Shathi Rani and Shamima Sultana had a steady start to their innings.

Bangladesh was in a stable situation halfway through their innings as the two left, at 58 for 2. They had trouble locating the extra gear, particularly during the middle overs. Before being stumped by Shafali Verma, Shobana Mostary stumbled to a 33-ball 23.

Bangladesh were constrained to a score below average despite Shorna Akter’s run-per-ball 28, which featured two sixes, being the highest score of the innings.

Brief Scores

India defeated Bangladesh 118/3 in 16.2 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 54*, Smriti Mandhana 38; Sultana Khatun 2-25) by 7 wickets. Bangladesh had scored 117/5 in 20 overs (Shorna Akter 28, Shobana Mostary 23; Pooja Vastrakar 1-16).
