IPL Imposes Fines on Rana and Bumrah
Nitish Rana of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians both had a bad night on Wednesday (April 6). Rana and Bumrah were found guilty of infringing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Code of Conduct after KKR thrashed MI by five wickets with four overs to spare due to a blistering fifty by Pat Cummins.
Rana and Bumrah were both penalized 10% of their match fees on Wednesday. “Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana has been reprimanded and fined 10% of his match fee for violating the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match versus Mumbai Indians in Pune,” the IPL said in a statement.
“Mr Rana accepted the sentence after admitting to a Level 1 violation of the IPL Code of Conduct. The TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct was broken by Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah during his team’s match versus Kolkata Knight Riders in Pune, according to the statement.
The match referee’s decision is final in IPL Level 1 Code of Conduct offenses. “Mr Bumrah accepted the sentence after admitting to a Level 1 violation of the IPL Code of Conduct. The Match Referee’s judgment is final and binding for Level 1 Code of Conduct violations, according to the statement.
Rana scored 8 from 7 balls before being bowled by Murugan Ashwin of MI, while Bumrah failed to pick up a wicket while allowing 26 runs in three overs while chasing 162 to win.
Meanwhile, veteran MI all-rounder Kieron Pollard added to Suryakumar Yadav’s quick half-century by hitting 23 runs in the final over to propel MI after KKR held things tight for the majority of their innings.
Suryakumar Yadav (52) and Tilak Varma (38 not out) put on an 83-run fourth-wicket stand before Pollard (22 not out) struck Cummins for three sixes to cap MI’s innings on a high note, which was ultimately too little for KKR.
