Jay Patel Honoured at New York’s Healthcare Heroes Awards 2025 for Life-Saving Work During COVID-19
While Hollywood has the Oscars and Broadway celebrates the Tonys, New York’s Healthcare Heroes Awards shines a spotlight on those who save lives through compassion, innovation, and medical service. On April 30, 2025, at a grand ceremony hosted by Schneps Media, many heroes from the healthcare field were honoured. Among these inspiring individuals stood Jay Patel, who was recognised not for a film role, but for saving real lives during the pandemic.

Jay Patel may be known to movie fans for his role as freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma in the movie Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. However, this award was not for his acting—it was for his extraordinary efforts in healthcare and humanitarian service. He was the only person of Indian origin to receive this honour at the event.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jay Patel worked side by side with well-known philanthropist Paresh Ghelani. Together, they helped send over $2 million worth of sanitiser to hospitals and communities across New York, Chicago, and many parts of India.
But that’s not all. Patel also donated to the PM CARES Fund in India. What makes his work even more impressive is that he personally took charge to ensure that more than 800 people were provided with food, medicines, and basic supplies for over six months, without expecting anything in return. His actions were driven by pure compassion.

Jay Patel’s dedication didn’t go unnoticed. New York State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. presented him with a special Senate recognition, saying that Patel had shown “outstanding dedication” and “served the state and community with loyalty and heart.”
In addition, Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman gave Patel an official County Citation, praising his genuine efforts and the impact he made during a global health crisis.
In his acceptance speech, Jay Patel gave heartfelt thanks to some of the top Indian medical professionals who had inspired and supported his journey. He mentioned:
Dr. Navneet Shah – Diabetologist and Endocrinologist
Dr. Shailesh Talati – Expert in Medical Oncology and Haematology
Dr. Tejas Madhusudan Patel – Famous Interventional Cardiologist
Dr. Sewanti Limaye – Oncology and Precision Medicine Expert
Dr. Kalpesh Ghelani – Chiropractic Specialist
Dr. Hital Patel – Dermatologist
Dr. Pinakin J. Shah – Surgical Oncologist
“These are the people who inspire me to do more. They are driven not just by knowledge, but by kindness,” he said.
Jay Patel is also the Chairman of Med Data Science Inc., a healthcare tech company based in the USA. The company is creating change in the medical world through AI-powered platforms that make medical billing and coding faster, more transparent, and more accurate.
What makes his mission unique is his focus on helping the uninsured. In a healthcare system often driven by profits, Med Data Science aims to bring care to those who are usually left behind.
The company’s Chief Technology Officer, Mudit Sachdev, and Chief Operating Officer, Payal Patel, attended the event and shared how emotional it was to see their leader receive such a high honour. “This is not just a career win—it’s a moment that reflects our mission: to serve, to uplift, and to care,” they said.
Other Heroes Honoured at the Event
The event also celebrated many other healthcare leaders from New York and beyond, including:
