Sen said on Twitter that his fellow jury members did not agree with his assessment of Israeli screenwriter and director Nadav Lapid’s “The Kashmir Files,” and that his opinion was solely his own.
On Twitter, filmmaker Sudipto Sen, who was a member of the jury for the recently concluded International Film Festival of India (IFFI), claimed that his fellow jury members did not agree with the Israeli screenwriter and director Nadav Lapid’s assessment of “The Kashmir Files.”
Sen clarified his position by saying: “Anything said by IFFI 2022 Jury Chairman Mr Nadav Lapid from the stage of the closing ceremony of the 53rd IFFI about the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ was completely his personal opinion.”
“We four jury members—the fifth had to depart due to a personal emergency—were present for the official Press Conference and the presentation of the Jury Board to the Festival Director, but we made no mention of our preferences there or in our interactions with the press. Both were regarded as the official group opinion.”
Sen noted in his conclusion: “As jurors, it is our responsibility to assess a film’s technical proficiency, aesthetic value, and sociocultural applicability. We refrain from making any political remarks about any movie, and if we do, it’s solely in our individual capacity; it has nothing to do with the esteemed Jury Board.”
