For the eight-match series against the West Indies later this month, a few regulars of India’s white-ball team are expected to be rested. The players that will be excluded have not yet been decided, although it makes sense that they will be older players rather than younger ones. Between July 22 and August 7 in the Caribbean and the US, India faces the West Indies in three ODIs and five T20Is.
Because the national selectors have not yet reached a consensus on the rest issue, the squad announcement that was supposed to take place in the previous few days has been postponed. Following the conclusion of the Edgbaston Test, selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma, who is traveling with the squad in England, may speak with players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant among others.
The selectors might not consider resting the captain again given that coach Rahul Dravid has already had to work with a few of the captains during his brief tenure. Rohit, who voluntarily and compelled skipped the current Test and the home South Africa series may lead the teams.
The Indian white-ball team, with the exception of captain Rohit, has arrived in Southampton, where they will play their first of six white-ball matches against England on Thursday (July 7). According to information obtained, Rohit is still in Birmingham while the other players in the team for the first T20I have arrived in Southampton.
The team is also traveling with VVS Laxman, who led the T20I team to Ireland as its coach. On July 1 and 3, Laxman oversaw the team during the two exhibition matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.
India returns to Birmingham to play the second T20I after the Southampton match before traveling to Nottingham for the third and final T20 match.
The Oval and Lord’s will host two of the three ODIs on July 12 and 14, respectively. On July 17, the series’ last game will take place in Manchester, after which India will depart for Trinidad for the West Indies series.
