At this brainstorming session, which will feature presentations by 85 specialists and panel discussions, over 800 general practitioners will be present.

Family medicine is known for offering comprehensive care across most disciplines to patients of all ages. General practitioners (GPs) or family medicine practitioners are the first line of care for the majority of health issues.
In many developed nations, where patients cannot seek out a specialist without the recommendation of a primary care physician, they have a special status. Sadly, this is not the situation in India, where a rapidly expanding corporate and multi-speciality hospital culture is rendering family physicians obsolete. Family physicians are once again being emphasised for providing healthcare at the community level as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, according to organisers of the Ahmedabad chapter of the Federation of Family Physicians Association of India (FFPA) here on Friday.
National Conference
On Saturday and Sunday at Ahmedabad Management Association, the two-day National Conference of Family Physicians will be hosted by the Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association.
The National Conference’s organising secretary, Dr. Pragnesh Vachchrajani, stated, “We know that Family Physicians are very vital for the society. The Covid outbreak once again demonstrated the value of family physicians to society in terms of primary care. Strong primary care is necessary in every nation. The two-day national conference will reiterate the value of family doctors to society.
“More than 800 delegates from around India are attending this two-day event, where more than 85 faculties will impart their experience,” he said. Leading family physicians from across the nation will participate in a panel discussion called the “National Family Physician Dialogue,” where experts from a variety of fields, including the media, the general public, the government, and the medical council, will discuss the issues that family physicians are currently facing and offer solutions.
According to Dr. Vachchrajani, discussions on the most recent advances in cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology, orthopaedics, and other fields will be held at the national conference to keep primary care physicians informed. Along with the Ahmedabad Management Association, we are hosting a public awareness workshop on lifestyle disease prevention on Saturday.
“Hypertension, obesity, and diabetes are some of the major lifestyle disorders affecting the young and all age groups due to the acceptance of fast foods, sedentary nature, as well as lack of sleep, etc.,” stated Dr. Abhay S. Dixit, chairman of the AFPA-NATCON 2023 organising committee. This can be managed with yoga, walking, and eating habits.
In response to a question on reviving the glories of family doctors, Dr. Dixit argued that “In many developed countries, it is mandatory that every person have a GP and a patient can be admitted to the hospital only on the advise of the GP. According to studies, a strong primary care system with the family doctor at its core can significantly reduce health expenses. The key to saving the disappearing family doctor may lay in various levels of persuasion. In order to establish referral policies and family medicine specialisations, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Federation of Family Physicians Association of India (FFPA) must pursue the matter with the government. Perhaps more convincing is needed at the student level to restore the family physician’s former grandeur.
Dr. Kamlesh Naik, a different organising chairman, stated: “AFPA currently has 4,000 members who are qualified MBBS. After Covid, the general public has come to understand our significance. We shall collaborate with all interested parties to compel family doctors and general practitioners to play a part in healthcare.
