Silvassa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, witnessed a historic moment on March 7, 2025, as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the ₹460 crore Namo Hospital—a 450-bed facility designed to transform healthcare in the region. Alongside this milestone, the PM introduced a suite of public welfare projects worth over ₹2,500 crore, signaling a massive push toward modernizing India’s infrastructure and medical services.
The Namo Hospital, equipped with cutting-edge technology, promises to address the growing demand for specialized medical care in Silvassa and surrounding areas. During the inauguration, PM Modi reviewed a 3D model of the hospital, highlighting features like advanced operation theaters, telemedicine units, and trauma care centers. “This hospital is not just a building; it’s a symbol of India’s commitment to ensuring every citizen has access to world-class healthcare,” he said.
But the showstopper of the event was Misso—India’s first indigenously developed AI-powered robotic system for knee replacement surgeries. Developed by Meril, a leading Indian medical technology company, Misso represents a giant leap in precision surgery.
During a live demonstration, Meril’s CEO, Vivek Shah, explained how Misso uses artificial intelligence to analyze patient anatomy and assist surgeons in performing knee replacements with unmatched accuracy. “Traditional surgeries rely heavily on a surgeon’s experience, but Misso adds a layer of data-driven precision,” Shah said. “This reduces human error, shortens recovery time, and ensures better long-term outcomes for patients”
PM Modi interacted with the Meril team, expressing enthusiasm for the innovation. “When Indian talent and technology come together, we create solutions that can transform lives globally,” he remarked.
Beyond healthcare, the ₹2,500 crore projects include new schools, road expansions, and water supply upgrades. For instance, 10 government schools in Dadra and Nagar Haveli will be renovated with smart classrooms, while 50 villages will gain access to clean drinking water through new pipelines.
On his two-day visit to Gujarat, PM Modi reiterated the government’s focus on Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), praising Meril for reducing dependence on imported medical devices. “For decades, we imported high-cost equipment. Today, Indian companies like Meril are proving we can lead in innovation,” he said.
The Namo Hospital is expected to begin operations by late 2025, serving as a hub for specialties like cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics. With Misso set to be deployed nationwide, India’s healthcare sector is poised for a tech-driven transformation.
