World Environment Day Reality Check: Gujarat’s Forests Shrinking While Government Sleeps

World Environment Day – Global Warming Talks But No Action? Gujarat Congress Exposes Green Gaps!

On World Environment Day, the Gujarat Congress party raised strong concerns about how the state government is handling nature and forests. At a special press conference, Congress leader Parthivraj Kathwadia shared shocking details and accused the government of not doing enough to protect the environment.

Parthivraj Kathwadia said that a big part of Gujarat’s forest land has been taken over by people without permission. He shared that 13,008 hectares of forest land are under illegal occupation. That’s a huge area, nearly the size of many small towns!

He asked an important question:
“Why does the government send bulldozers into villages, but never to remove people from forests?”
This makes people wonder if the rules are different for different situations.

The Congress party also said that the government has given 3,725.95 hectares of forest land to private infrastructure companies. This means that land meant for trees, animals, and clean air is being used for buildings and industries.

“This clearly shows that the government does not care enough about saving forests,” said Kathwadia.

The Congress shared another serious issue. There are over 4,600 companies in Gujarat that do not follow environmental rules. These companies may be polluting the air, water, and land, but no strong action is being taken.

Who is supposed to check them? That job is for the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). But here’s the problem…

The GPCB is supposed to make sure companies follow the law and don’t harm nature. But right now, 60% of the staff positions in GPCB are empty. Only 40% of the staff are working. That’s like trying to run a school with less than half the teachers!

Without enough people to check pollution, many companies break the rules and get away with it.

Kathwadia also said that the government uses big words like “global warming” and “climate change” in speeches. But in reality, very little is being done to fight these problems.

The Central Government has started a plan called Nagar Van Yojana. This plan will help cities grow more trees and protect green areas. 100 cities have been selected for this project, but Gujarat is not one of them.

“It’s really sad and shocking,” said Kathwadia. “Gujarat always talks about development. But when it comes to nature, it’s not even on the list.”

Nature is not just about trees and animals. It gives us clean air, water, and a safe climate. If we don’t protect it today, our children will suffer tomorrow.

Congress says the Gujarat government must:

  • Remove illegal occupation from forest lands.
  • Stop giving forests to private companies.
  • Make sure all companies follow pollution rules.
  • Fill the empty jobs in the Pollution Control Board.
  • Take real steps to fight climate change.
  • Join national plans like Nagar Van Yojana.

On a day when the world promised to protect the Earth, Gujarat’s Congress party reminded us that real action matters more than just words. Will the state government listen and act before it’s too late?
