Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja, speaking on India’s historic win, said, “It is more historic since not many teams would have defeated England by such a large margin in England.”

The 25-year-old’s tactical skills and composure throughout the match as India’s Test captain have been widely praised by former England captain Nasser Hussain.

In the second match of the five-Test series at Edgbaston, India defeated England by an unprecedented margin of 336 runs. On Sunday, the visitors secured their first-ever Test victory at this venue, and they did it emphatically. They bundled out England for just 271 runs while defending a massive target of 608, ultimately winning by a huge 336-run margin.

Very few teams have managed to beat England in England by such a large margin under home conditions, making this triumph even more historic. Speaking on Sony Sports, Ajay Jadeja remarked, “Any team, whether it’s Australia or South Africa, would rarely travel to another country and win by such a large margin.”

He further added, “The squad used to be angry, but that’s not the biggest change we’ve seen. It’s not that you’ve won for the first or the last time. There were a lot of people talking, and when the wickets fell, there was a kind of smile and joy. The old rage wasn’t there anymore, and that made me happier. It was clear that they were pure and supportive of each other.”

Nasser Hussain has also praised the 25-year-old’s tactical brilliance and calm nature as India’s Test captain, describing Shubman Gill as having a personality quite different from Virat Kohli. In addition to becoming the seventh batsman to score centuries in his first two Test matches as captain, Gill scored 269 and 161 runs in the Edgbaston Test.

“He will always maintain his calmness and composure. Just listen to that interview—his heartbeat is really slow. So, he’s not going to be a character like Kohli, although that can actually be beneficial. Look at the large crowd present today; sometimes you need someone like him to keep the team calm,” Hussain said.

He also pointed out Gill’s tactical moves during the match. “Akash Deep bowled beautifully from this end. This morning, we thought he’d start from the Pavilion end, but Gill started him from the other end, and it worked. So he made some subtle tactical decisions that were very effective. Above all else, his main job is to score runs—and he’s got a shedload of them,” Hussain concluded in his interview with Sky Sports.

Many records have been broken at the end of the second test match between India and England.  

1. This was India’s first test match victory at Edgbaston.
2. Shubhman Gill’s first Test match win as a Captain.
3. Shubhman Gill was the first player to score 269 and 150+ in a test match, scoring more than 400 runs in a single test match.
4. India scored more than 1000 runs in a test match, combining both innings.
5. This was India’s biggest margin of victory for India in a test match.

This is one of the finest and historic wins for India in recent times. It is more significant because there was no Bumrah, no Kohli and no Rohit Sharma. The young brigade did it for Team India.

The third match is going to be played at Lord’s in London from 10th July. You will find many changes in the squads from both sides.  From England, you may see Jofra Archer and Mark Wood in action. From India, you will see Jasprit Bumrah bowling for Team India. Bumrah will be there that’s for sure because now you need to take the lead in the series, now you need to tighten the screws pretty hard.

The series is level by 1-1 in a 5-match series.
