The Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) welcomed its new leadership team for the year 2025–26 at a grand ceremony on Sunday, 28th September 2025. The association, founded in 1902, is among India’s oldest and most respected medical bodies. Today, it represents over 12,500 doctors from Ahmedabad and nearby regions. For more than a century, AMA has played a key role in shaping the city’s medical standards and community health programs.

The new team is led by President Dr. Jignesh Shah and Honorary Secretary Dr. Maulik Sheth. The ceremony saw the presence of several respected figures from the medical community. The Chief Guest was Dr. Sandip Shah, known for his work in public health. Dr. Bharat Dave, a senior physician, joined as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Anil Nayak, a veteran doctor and community health advocate, was the Distinguished Guest. The installation was conducted by Dr. Bipin Patel, who has been closely associated with AMA for many years.
This year’s theme, “Beyond Scalpel and Stethoscope,” is a thoughtful reminder that a doctor’s role goes far beyond clinics and hospitals. It highlights how medical professionals are increasingly taking part in public education, social service, and leadership roles. Across India, medical associations are focusing on connecting with communities through health drives, awareness programs, and digital outreach. AMA’s new team aims to continue this tradition while adding innovative initiatives.
One of the key areas for 2025–26 is Public Health Awareness. AMA plans to actively promote organ donation, CPR training, and preventive health camps. Organ donation is an urgent issue in India. According to data from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the country sees thousands of patients waiting for organs each year, but only a small fraction receive them in time.
Dr. Jignesh, the newly installed president of AMA, said that “they will plan and work on creating a mobile APP, Website or an information desk where they can provide training or practical information regarding CPR training for citizens’ life-saving initiative. In cities like Ahmedabad, where emergency services can face delays, early CPR by bystanders can double a person’s chances of survival.
Preventive health camps are expected to reach underserved areas, offering free checkups and early diagnosis.
The second big step is Digital Growth. Ahmedabad Medical Association will soon launch its official mobile app for members. The app will be a one-stop platform for communication, event registrations, and updates. Across the medical field, digital platforms are helping professionals stay connected, especially after the pandemic accelerated the shift toward telemedicine and virtual conferences. By launching its own app, AMA aims to keep its members informed and engaged in real time.
Scientific growth is also a major focus. AMA will host NATCON 2025, a national conference that brings together doctors, researchers, and policy experts from across India. In addition, AMACON 2026, the association’s flagship event, will provide opportunities for continuing medical education (CME) and hands-on workshops. These events are crucial because medical science evolves rapidly. Regular training helps doctors stay updated with the latest techniques, treatments, and research findings. Gujarat has been increasingly chosen as a venue for national medical events due to its strong medical infrastructure and active professional bodies.
Another key area is Professional Empowerment. Ahmedabad Medical Association will roll out programs on financial literacy, mentorship for young doctors, and leadership development. Many young medical professionals often focus solely on clinical skills but lack guidance in managing finances, running clinics, or building leadership qualities. Such programs can help doctors make better career decisions and improve patient care through better-managed practices.
In addition to professional work, AMA is also focusing on Fraternity and Wellness. There will be cultural celebrations, sports events, and family activities to strengthen personal bonds among members. Across many professions, including medicine, burnout has become a growing concern. By creating a sense of community and encouraging wellness activities, AMA aims to support the mental and physical health of its members.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Jignesh Shah said, “With AMA’s rich legacy, we aim to rebuild trust in the doctor–patient relationship, empower our fraternity, and serve society with compassion and integrity.” This statement reflects a growing national sentiment. In recent years, trust between doctors and patients has faced challenges due to rising healthcare costs, misinformation on social media, and overburdened systems. Efforts like these are important to rebuild respect and mutual understanding.
Dr. Maulik Sheth added, “Our focus this year will be on unity, innovation, and service. Together, we will strengthen both the medical community and our bond with society.” His words underline AMA’s plan to work collaboratively and use modern methods to bring positive change.
With more than a century of heritage, Ahmedabad Medical Association remains a pillar of healthcare in Ahmedabad. It has grown from a small group of doctors in the early 1900s to a large, dynamic community today. Through new initiatives, a strong leadership team, and community partnerships, AMA continues its mission to serve both its members and society at large.
