Greetings,
I am Amjad Khan, former Corporator of Gomtipur Ward and a candidate for the upcoming election. I present my views before all media friends today.
Historic Work in the Field of Education
When I was a Corporator, there was a dilapidated school in Sundarnagar. I rebuilt that school with a model school design – complete playground and all facilities. The kind of government schools that are now being shown as the ‘Delhi Model’, I built such a school during my tenure.
In many parts of India, studies show that children learn better when schools have clean classrooms, playgrounds, and proper toilets. Reports from education bodies have also found that strong early schooling helps reduce drop-out rates in later years. A well-built school is not just a building. It shapes a child’s future.
In 2010, I started this school up to the 8th standard. However, the corporators after me did not add any further grades.
Now I promise – after becoming a Corporator in 2026, I will add one grade every year – 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standards will be started.
There was no arrangement for a kindergarten on that school campus; I also built a kindergarten there.
Experts say early childhood education improves reading and thinking skills. Children who attend kindergarten are more ready for primary school.
Revolutionary Development of Shardaben Hospital
Shardaben Hospital was built, but it was sealed. I got that hospital opened and made it functional.
Across India, many public hospitals face delays in opening or a lack of equipment. Health reports often point out that local leadership plays a key role in making such hospitals work for people.
Today, the following wards and operation theatres are operational there:
Surgical Ward
Surgical OT
Plastic Surgery Ward
Male Surgical Ward
Pediatric Ward
General OT
OPD
I proposed and got the CT Scan made operational.
People used to have to go to the Civil Hospital or the VS Hospital for an MRI. I arranged for an MRI at Shardaben Hospital.
Health experts say that quick access to scans like CT and MRI can save lives, especially in emergencies. When patients do not need to travel far, treatment starts faster.
The condition of the Radiology department was such that if a doctor prescribed a sonography, a date would be given after 15–20 days. By then, the patient would either pass away somewhere or get treatment at a private hospital. This major work was done at Shardaben Hospital along with me.
Reducing waiting time in public hospitals has been a key goal in many cities. Faster diagnosis helps doctors take quick action.
Party Plot Facility in Gomtipur Area
In the Gomtipur area, people used to set up tents on the roads for weddings.
In many urban areas, using public roads for events causes traffic and safety issues. Civic reports often suggest dedicated spaces for social functions to avoid such problems.
In 2011, I built a party plot here. Even today, there is only one. I will endeavour to get at least 3 new party plots built in this area.
Such spaces also support local businesses like decorators, caterers and small vendors.
Permanent Solution to the Waterlogging Problem at the Cemetery
In a ward where I was not the Corporator, there was a cemetery where water used to accumulate, and funeral biers would float onto the road – this was a shameful incident. The religious sentiments of the people there were being hurt.
Urban flooding is a common issue in many Indian cities. Experts say poor drainage and blocked water flow are the main reasons.
I filled a tender and installed a perforated wall system there for the first time. Even today, that cemetery does not have waterlogging.
Simple engineering solutions like proper drainage systems can solve long-standing civic problems when applied correctly.
Water, Drainage, Drinking Water, Lighting – and a New Commitment
During my tenure, I also carried out extensive work on taps, drainage, drinking water and street lights in other areas. But after my time, all these facilities have deteriorated. No new work has been done on them.
Basic services like water and lighting are the backbone of any city. Studies show that proper street lighting can reduce crime and improve safety, especially for women and the elderly. Clean drinking water also prevents diseases.
Today, I take a pledge –
If you make me your Corporator, I will permanently end the problems of water, drainage, electricity and street lights in the entire Gomtipur Ward.
Just as facilities exist in other wards of Ahmedabad – Naranpura, Bopal, Ambli – and in our neighbouring areas – Ramol, Vastral, India Colony – I will establish similar facilities in Gomtipur.
Balanced development across wards is often seen as a key step towards better city planning.
Special Arrangements for Children and the Elderly
Playground for children
Walking street and gazebo for the elderly
I will make these arrangements so that people of all ages can take care of themselves and, like good Indian citizens, avail all the facilities for which they pay taxes.
Urban planners say that open spaces improve both physical and mental health. Children need safe places to play, and elderly people benefit from calm walking areas.I once again promise today – make me your Corporator in the 2026 election, and I will change the face of Gomtipur.
