Gujarat Startup MiCoB gets ₹30 Crore Commitment on Vande Bharatam

Gujarat-based construction technology company MiCoB has secured a ₹30 crore investment commitment on Episode 7 of Vande Bharatam, a national programme launched by Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani to find entrepreneurs and problem-solvers from across India.

The episode was aired on September 14. The ₹30 crore commitment was made jointly by Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive officer of Flipkart, and Ashutosh Valani, co-founder of RENÉE Cosmetics. Karan Adani, managing director of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd, separately offered help with procurement for MiCoB’s construction projects.

The panel also included Rajeev Kalambi, co-founder and general partner at Cactus Partners.

For MiCoB, the announcement comes after several years of work in 3D concrete printing. The Ahmedabad-based company was founded in 2018 by Ankita Sinha, Shashank Shekhar and Rishabh Mathur at IIT Gandhinagar. The company says it has since delivered more than 650 3D-printed structures in 13 states, including more than 500 bunkers.

MiCoB’s work has moved beyond small demonstrations. Its projects include defence accommodation, bunkers, industrial buildings, hospitality projects and other structures. Its published project record includes a 2,200 sq ft store warehouse at Lakadia in Bhuj for WRSS XXI (A) Transco Ltd, part of Adani Energy, as well as a 12,000 sq ft resort at Nagoa Beach in Diu. The company has also worked on defence facilities in Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and other locations.

The company’s work with the armed forces has already received government recognition. In December 2022, the Indian Army inaugurated a two-storey 3D-printed dwelling unit for soldiers at Ahmedabad Cantonment. The 71 sq metre building, constructed with the Military Engineer Services and MiCoB, was completed in 12 weeks. The structure used 3D-printed foundations, walls and slabs and was designed to meet Zone-3 earthquake requirements and green building norms.

MiCoB’s approach uses a computer-controlled printer to place specially prepared concrete layer by layer. The company has developed its own printers, concrete mix and software. A Department of Science and Technology profile published earlier described the system as a way to make construction faster and reduce the need for manual work. The same government profile recorded three patent applications at that stage and listed the Indian defence sector and construction companies among its customers.

The technology is being used in places where conventional construction can be difficult. MiCoB says its defence work includes bunkers in mountainous and desert areas. Its project list also includes an 8,800 sq ft G+1 defence facility in the Sikkim border region and a 1,200 sq ft facility in Arunachal Pradesh. Such projects show why construction methods that can reduce work at the site may be useful for remote locations.

The ₹30 crore commitment also places MiCoB among the larger deals announced during the current Vande Bharatam season. The programme was launched by Gautam Adani in June 2026 and received more than 26,000 applications from across India. The entries came from all states and Union Territories and covered areas such as technology, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, defence and education.

The programme has brought entrepreneurs from outside the usual startup centres into contact with investors and business leaders. Seventy-five finalists were selected from the initial pool, according to the programme’s August announcement.

Karan Adani said:

“MiCoB is a clear example of what Vande Bharatam is designed to surface — deep-tech innovation that’s already solving real infrastructure problems on the ground. Their platform has the potential to change how we build in this country, and we’re glad to back that journey.”

Kalyan Krishnamurthy said:

“What convinced us wasn’t just the technology — it was seeing MiCoB’s platform already deployed and working across defence, infrastructure and industrial sites. That’s rare at this stage, and it’s why we moved quickly to back them.”

The proposed procurement assistance from Karan Adani could give MiCoB access to construction requirements linked to Adani Group infrastructure. The exact projects, contract values and timelines were not disclosed in the material reviewed for this report.

For India’s construction sector, the MiCoB case reflects a wider move towards automated building methods. Construction 3D printing can reduce the amount of formwork needed for certain structures and allows designs to be produced directly from digital files. It does not, however, remove the need for conventional work. Electrical systems, plumbing, reinforcement, foundations in some designs and finishing can still require standard construction methods. NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Network has described MiCoB’s system as a combination of printed wall panels and conventional structural components.

The company has also received earlier government and institutional recognition. MiCoB was selected for incubation assistance under ASHA-India, linked to the Global Housing Technology Challenge-India of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Its current company profile lists the National Startup Awards 2022 and an iDEX defence award among its recognitions. IIT Gandhinagar’s annual report also records its early connection with the institute’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre.

The ₹30 crore commitment therefore comes at a stage when MiCoB already has field projects to point to. Whether the promised capital and procurement opportunities translate into a larger number of commercial projects will depend on the final investment arrangements, project orders and the company’s ability to deliver at a much larger scale.

Vande Bharatam is due to reach its season finale on September 17, with a ₹2 crore cash prize backed by the Adani Group for the winners.
