Rataldi Garba 2026 Brings Live Music to Ahmedabad Navratri

Rataldi – City of Dreams 2026 to Bring a New Garba Format to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad’s Navratri calendar will see a new edition of Rataldi with a larger venue, a 2,50,000 sq. ft. Garba playing area and a musical format that combines Mandali with live instruments.

The event, earlier known as “Rataldi – The Mandali Garba”, is entering its third year under the new name “Rataldi – City of Dreams 2026.” It will be held at Master Farm, Vaishnodevi, Lilapur, Ahmedabad, with the celebrations planned from October 11 to October 19, 2026. A separate Pre-Navratri event will take the total programme to 10 days.

The change in venue is one of the main differences this year. According to Jayveersinh Zala, founder of Zala Events, the team has developed the site after clearing and preparing land that had remained unused for years. A lawn has been created for Garba, with a playing area of about 2,50,000 square feet.

Parking has also been planned on a large scale. The organisers say around 20 to 25 bighas have been kept aside for vehicles.

For an event where large crowds are expected, these arrangements will be important. Ahmedabad hosts several major Garba programmes during Navratri, and organisers increasingly have to deal with questions around entry, parking, crowd movement and access to the venue.

Zala said the response to Rataldi during its first two years encouraged the organisers to change the scale and format of the event.

“The love showered on Rataldi by Ahmedabad’s Garba enthusiasts over the past two years is our biggest inspiration. This year, we didn’t just think about expanding the venue; we aimed to elevate the entire experience to a new level. Along with the new venue, 2,50,000 square feet playing area, 20 to 25 bighas of parking, and grand decoration, our musical concept is the main highlight. By combining Mandali with violin, manjira, and other live instruments, we aim to offer a fresh musical experience. When these instruments play together in sync with the Mandali’s beat, attendees will feel a whole new energy. Our purpose is simple — to make our loving fans feel as though they have truly entered a different world when they walk in. That is why we are presenting it as ‘Rataldi – City of Dreams’.”

The musical format is expected to be the most noticeable change for regular visitors. Mandali remains at the centre of the programme, but this year it will be accompanied by dhol, shehnai, violin, manjira and other live instruments.

The idea places traditional Garba rhythms alongside instruments that are more commonly heard in other live musical settings. The organisers say the musicians will perform together rather than having Mandali as a standalone act.

The move comes at a time when Ahmedabad’s Navratri events are becoming increasingly varied in their presentation. Large public Garba programmes now use different combinations of live performers, sound systems, lighting, stage production and venue design.

The wider importance of Garba goes beyond these large events. UNESCO added “Garba of Gujarat” to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2023. UNESCO describes Garba as a ritual and devotional dance linked with Navaratri and notes that the tradition is passed between generations through practice, performance and observation. The organisation also records the role of musicians, dancers, craftspeople, organisers and religious communities in keeping the tradition alive.

The recognition was India’s 15th inscription on the UNESCO list at the time. The Government of India said the listing recognised Garba’s cultural importance and its role in bringing people together.

Ahmedabad remains one of Gujarat’s major centres for Navratri celebrations. Gujarat Tourism describes Ahmedabad and Vadodara as key destinations for Garba and notes that celebrations take place in neighbourhoods, villages, public spaces and organised venues across the state.

The 2026 festival calendar is again expected to make the city busy with Garba programmes. Shardiya Navratri begins on October 11 and ends on October 19, with Vijayadashami on October 20.

Rataldi’s opening programme will come before the nine main Navratri nights. The organisers have planned a Red Outfit Pre-Navratri event, with attendees required to wear red. The aim is to create a single-colour crowd across the venue.

The event’s name, “City of Dreams”, also reflects the organisers’ decision to build the venue around a larger visual setting. The site will include large-scale decorations and a specially prepared Garba lawn.

For Zala Events, the third edition is therefore a test of how much the Rataldi format can change while keeping Mandali at its centre. The organisers are relying on a larger ground, greater parking capacity and a live musical combination to distinguish the 2026 edition from the previous two years.

The scale of the venue will also make crowd and traffic management important. Other major Ahmedabad Garba events scheduled for 2026 are also being planned at large grounds. For instance, Gujarat Tourism’s Vibrant Navratri Festival 2026 is scheduled at GMDC Ground from October 11 to 20 and is expected to include large public performances and cultural activities.

Rataldi will add another option for Garba enthusiasts in the Vaishnodevi-Lilapur area.

With the new venue, a 2,50,000 sq. ft. playing area, 20 to 25 bighas of parking, a Red Outfit Pre-Navratri event and live combinations of Mandali, dhol, shehnai, violin and manjira, Rataldi – City of Dreams 2026 is set to take a different approach to its third year.

The central question for visitors will be simple: how the new setting and live musical format will work when thousands of people step onto the Garba floor during Ahmedabad’s nine nights of Navratri.
