Ahmedabad Hosts Mega SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026
Armed Forces And Tech Experts Join Hands to Solve Critical National Security Challenges At SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026
A major event focused on making India self-reliant in military technology has officially started. SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026, a massive two-day global summit and exhibition, kicked off successfully at Vigyan Bhawan in Ahmedabad on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
The high-profile event brings together the brightest minds in national security. Senior government officials, armed forces leaders, and space experts are meeting under one roof. They are joined by top defence startups, academic researchers, and international equipment makers.
The core theme of this year’s summit is “Fostering Partnership for Security.” Over the next two days, attendees will look at how India can build its own security tools instead of buying them from other nations. This aligns with the government’s ongoing push for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) in critical technology sectors.
Driving Innovation in Space and Defence
The exhibition showcases a wide array of modern technologies. Visitors can see the latest advancements in aerospace, satellite mapping, and marine systems. Unmanned technologies, such as drones and automated border surveillance tools, are drawing significant attention from military buyers.

The Government of Gujarat is hosting the grand event through its Department of Science and Technology. Two key local bodies, the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) and Gujarat Science City, are managing the ground operations.
National space and mapping institutions are also providing heavy support. The Survey of India and the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), which operates under the Department of Space, are co-hosting the summit. The main coordinator behind the grand show is the Trade Promotion Council for Geospatial and Space Industry (TPCGSI).
India has traditionally been one of the world’s largest buyers of foreign military hardware. Events like SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026 aim to flip that script. By creating a space where the military can talk directly to local tech builders, the country can design weapons that fit its exact needs.
Sanjay Singh, the Founder and Director General of TPCGSI, explained the grand vision behind the project during the opening ceremony:
“SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026 is envisioned as a transformative platform to strengthen India’s self-reliance in security, geospatial, and space technologies. We aim to showcase indigenous capabilities, encourage innovation-driven partnerships, and accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies that contribute to national security and economic growth.”
One of the biggest hurdles for small tech companies is getting their ideas noticed by military generals. This summit solves that problem by acting as a bridge. It allows young innovators to show off working prototypes directly to the people who use these tools on the front lines.
Major General Bimal Monga, a top leader within the NCC Directorate for Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, praised the collaborative setup:
“This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for users, industry, government, and academia to come together and collaboratively develop solutions for the country. Such interactions will help us better understand each other’s needs and challenges.”
The energy at Vigyan Bhawan remains high as the event heads into its final stretch. The remaining schedule is packed with interactive panel discussions, technical business matchmaking, and live product demonstrations.
Special focus sessions will dive deep into homeland security and automated coastal patrolling systems. The event will close with a dedicated awards ceremony. The awards will honour local companies and researchers who have made breakthrough discoveries in defence science this year.
Ultimately, SwaRaksha Mahotsav 2026 is more than just a regular trade show. It serves as a clear roadmap for the future of Indian defence. By mixing local talent with state support, the event is helping ensure that the tools protecting the nation are proudly stamped “Made in India.”
