Sports research and education are being revolutionized by Rashtriya Raksha University’s (RRU) Bharat Centre of Olympic Research and Education (BCORE). Experts, scholars, and athletes convened on the third day of its inaugural international Olympic research conference to talk about infrastructure, sustainability, and the legacy of the Olympics.

To improve Olympic research, governance, and education, the conference—a first for India—brings together Indian innovators and world thinking leaders. The day’s focus was innovation and sustainability, which made it an important milestone in India’s expanding contribution to the growth of world sports.

Ms. Isha Rathee, an architect at Populous, a company renowned for its proficiency in creating elite sports facilities, gave a thought-provoking talk to start the day. Her talk, “Sustainable Venue Design, Green Infrastructure, and Temporary Venues,” examined the importance of affordable and environmentally sustainable sports complexes for the future.

She emphasized that sports facilities had to be both economically and environmentally sustainable in addition to being architectural marvels. She gave instances of how Olympic venues may go from being a financial burden to long-term assets, such as Lords Stadium and The O2 Arena.

“Sports infrastructure must be constructed with a sustainable mindset, balancing temporary and permanent venues while guaranteeing long-term usability, minimal waste, and energy efficiency,” she said.

Following the presentation, Mr. Charly and Ms. Margaux from Ceroun University in France, as well as Mr. Yoonkyu Song from Germany’s Willibald Gebhardt Institut, led an interesting conversation. They presented the idea of the Olympic Study Research Centre, which seeks to uphold and enhance the Olympic ideals of excellence, camaraderie, and respect.

Their discussion focused on the critical role that academic research can play in influencing international partnerships, athlete development, and sports governance.

A tree planting ceremony at the BCORE site was a major feature of the day, signifying the event’s dedication to sustainability and environmental awareness.

The effort, which was spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of RRU, and Padma Shri P.T. Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), emphasized the significance of incorporating green practices into sports governance and infrastructure.

Sir Ajay Patel (Senior Vice President, IOA) and Dr. P.T. Usha were also recognized at the conference for their services to Indian sports.

Dr. Usha considered how India’s Olympic ambitions are being shaped in large part by BCORE. The International Olympic Research Conference, she said, was a turning point in India’s quest for greater influence in international sports education and governance.

“India’s participation in the Olympic movement is about education, cultural exchange, and using sports to promote peace—it’s not just about competition,” she said.

She also discussed BCORE’s multidisciplinary approach, which incorporates important facets of sports governance, research, and innovation while simulating the experience of hosting the Olympics.

The conference’s third day reaffirmed the value of cooperation, creativity, and research in constructing a more robust future for Olympic sports. BCORE has the potential to develop into a global center for Olympic research and education with further dialogue and information exchange.

Conferences like this provide the groundwork for future partnerships, legislative changes, and long-term innovations in the Olympic movement as India gets ready to upgrade its athletic infrastructure.
