Childhood friends David Warner and Usman Khawaja will lead the batting of Australia during the final and fifth Ashes which will begin at Hobart this Thursday (January 14, 2014). Khawaja has scored an unbeaten century in both innings of the fourth Test in the SCG against England.
Warner And Khawaja first played together in the early years of New South Wales club cricket and played together at the Waverley Oval in Sydney.
Australia captain Pat Cummins confirmed Harris’ exclusion on Thursday, also confirming fast bowler Scott Boland’s selection on the team was subject to a fitness test. Boland injured his ribs after falling on the pitch in an unfortunate bowling incident during the Sydney test.
“The 90s just seemed way easier @usman_khawajy #cricketer #ashes #friends #brothers,” Warner wrote in the caption to the picture which has gotten more than 3.5 thousand likes on Instagram.
David Warner’s wife Candice Warner wrote in her blog “What it has been like the journey you’ve all been on to arrive at where you are. Be grateful and take a walk to remember the two boys who would hit balls into the wall at Waverley oval.”
In the meantime, England captain Joe Root was the winner of the toss and chose to field for the last Ashes Test with Australia in Hobart’s Bellerive Oval on Friday.
Australia has taken a commanding 3-1 lead in the five-match series.
