Gradiente Infotainment ₹5000 Crore Investment Announced

Major Investment Plan Targets India’s Creative Economy with ₹5,000 Crore Expansion

India’s media and entertainment sector could see a major round of private investment after Hyderabad-based Gradiente Infotainment Ltd announced a phased investment plan worth ₹5,000 crore to expand digital content, entertainment production and international distribution. The company says the programme is designed to support the growth of India’s Orange Economy, a term used for industries built around creativity, culture, media, design and intellectual property.

The announcement followed a meeting of the company’s Board of Directors in Hyderabad, where approval was given for the first stage of the investment programme. As part of that phase, Gradiente plans to raise US$110 million, or about ₹1,050 crore, to strengthen its digital infrastructure and increase investment in content production.

The Orange Economy has received growing attention in India in recent years as policymakers have placed greater emphasis on creative industries as a source of employment, exports and economic growth. The Union Budget for 2026 to 27 included measures to expand the country’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality sector, with plans for Content Creator Labs in schools and colleges and continued support for the National Centre of Excellence for AVGC.

Speaking after the board meeting, Dr Vimal Raj Mathur, Managing Director of Gradiente Infotainment Ltd, said:

“This ₹5,000 crore investment will be a game changer in making India a global creative hub, taking the country’s art and digital content to every corner of the world, and creating new jobs. Amidst the ongoing digital revolution in the country, the Orange Economy will become the biggest source of economic growth in the times to come. Our special focus is on establishing a strong foothold for Indian content in the emerging markets of Africa and Europe.”

The company’s investment strategy includes a series of content projects aimed at audiences in India and overseas. Among the first announcements are 200 new productions covering short-form entertainment and music.

One of the projects involves the production of 100 vertical micro dramas with an approved budget of ₹15 crore. These short, mobile-first productions are intended for social media platforms, OTT services and mobile applications, where vertical video has become increasingly popular among younger viewers. Filming is expected to take place in locations across India, Europe and Africa, with the company estimating that the project could generate around ₹25 crore in revenue by 31 March 2027.

The second project focuses on music production. Gradiente plans to create 100 international music videos with a budget of ₹50 crore. The company expects these releases to strengthen its presence on domestic and overseas music platforms and projects revenue of about ₹75 crore from the catalogue by the end of FY2027.

Together, the two projects represent an investment of ₹65 crore, with the company estimating combined revenue of ₹100 crore by the close of FY2027.

Industry analysts have noted that demand for short digital videos has grown rapidly as smartphones, faster internet services and streaming platforms have changed viewing habits. Short-form dramas, music videos and creator-led entertainment now form a significant part of online consumption, creating new opportunities for production companies, artists and independent creators. The expansion of regional language content has also widened the market for Indian productions both within the country and among overseas audiences.

Gradiente said the wider investment programme is intended to increase India’s presence in international entertainment markets while creating opportunities for artists, writers, technicians, musicians and digital professionals. According to the company, its long-term vision includes activities spanning films, OTT platforms, fashion, advertising, music and live events.

Dr Mathur said the investment would help improve the international profile of “Brand India” while creating additional employment opportunities for Indian creators.

The company already operates across several areas of the media business, including film and series production, digital content, music distribution through Gradiente Music, and its OTT platform Gradiente Stream. According to information published by the company, it has outlined a broader long-term expansion strategy covering both Indian and international markets.

The announcement comes at a time when India’s media and entertainment industry continues to attract investment from both public and private sectors. Government policy has increasingly focused on building the country’s creative industries through support for animation, gaming, digital content, film production and creator education. Officials have described these sectors as important contributors to future employment, innovation and exports.

While Gradiente’s projections for revenue and international expansion will depend on the commercial performance of its planned projects, the investment proposal represents one of the larger announced commitments by a private media company linked to India’s creative economy. If implemented as planned, the programme would add new content production across multiple formats while strengthening the company’s digital infrastructure and overseas distribution network.

The company expects the phased investment programme to support its broader objective of expanding Indian creative content into international markets, particularly in Africa and Europe, while contributing to the continuing growth of India’s Orange Economy.
