His contributions to the Coast Guard include his heroic role in apprehending the pirated ship MV Alondra Rainbow in 1999 while commanding the ICGS Tarabai. This courageous act had earlier earned him the Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry. Addl DG Harbola has held several key positions in the Coast Guard and currently oversees the Western Seaboard, a vital jurisdiction for India’s maritime security.
Another notable awardee was Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Atul Joshi, who was conferred the Tatrakshak Medal for Meritorious Service.
