IAT 2026 Registration Ahmedabad Urgent Deadline News

IAT 2026 Registration Final Date is Near, a Big Career Boost for Science Students

Online registration for admissions to the IISERs through IAT 2026 closes on 13th April 2026
Interested candidates can apply from https://www.iiseradmission.in/

The application window for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026 will close on 13th April 2026, marking the final opportunity for students across the country to apply for India’s national-level entrance test dedicated to science education and research.

In recent years, interest in research careers has grown in India. Reports from education surveys show more students now prefer pure science and research instead of only engineering or medical paths. This shift has made exams like IAT more important for students who want to build careers in fields such as physics, biology, and data science.

The IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) opens the door to the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs). These institutes have, over time, become prominent centres for excellence in fundamental science, interdisciplinary learning, and cutting-edge research.

Many global rankings and academic reports have placed IISERs among the top research institutions in India for undergraduate science education. Students here often get a chance to work on real research projects early, which is not common in many traditional colleges. This early exposure helps them publish papers and take part in international science programmes.

Prospective candidates seeking admission to BS-MS (Dual degree) and four-year BS degree programmes at IISER Berhampur, IISER Bhopal, IISER Kolkata, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, and IISER Tirupati are encouraged to register for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT 2026) by visiting the official website https://www.iiseradmission.in/

Each IISER campus has built its own strong focus area. For example, IISER Pune is known for biology and physics research, while IISER Kolkata has gained attention for data science and computational work. IISER Bhopal and Tirupati have also added engineering-related courses, which give students more career options after graduation.

Programmes offered through IAT 2026 include the flagship 5-year BS-MS dual degree programmes across IISERs, along with a growing range of specialised and interdisciplinary courses. These include Computational and Data Sciences at IISER Kolkata, newly introduced majors in Geology and Environmental Sciences at IISER Mohali, and 4-year BS and B.Tech programmes at IISER Bhopal and IISER Tirupati. The programme diversity allows students to pursue pathways across pure sciences, data science, economics, and engineering within a research-focused environment.

Experts say that courses like data science and environmental science are now in high demand. Industries such as climate research, artificial intelligence, and space science are hiring graduates with these skills. This makes IISER programmes more useful for both academic research and industry jobs.

Important Dates for IAT 2026:
● 13th April 2026: Application Portal Closes
● 16th–18th April 2026: Corrections in Application Forms
● 24th May 2026: Release of Exam Hall Ticket
● 7th June 2026: IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026 Examination Date (9:00 am – 12:00 pm IST)

Students are advised by coaching experts to complete their forms early and double-check details. In previous years, many candidates faced issues due to small errors in documents or personal details, which later affected their admission process.

This year, a significant change has occurred. The scope of IAT has expanded this year and will now be accepted for certain undergraduate programmes at top institutions. These include the IITs, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), and IIEST Shibpur. This move is expected to streamline access to high-quality science education and provide students with a wider range of academic choices through a single test.

Education experts believe this step can reduce pressure on students. Instead of preparing for multiple exams, they can now focus on one test and still get access to several top institutes. Similar systems are already used in countries like the United States, where one exam score can be used for many universities.

Candidates are required to follow the steps listed below to apply for IAT 2026:

● Step 1: Visit the IISER Admissions 2026 Website: https://iiseradmission.in/
● Step 2: On the homepage, go to the ‘Apply for IAT-2026”
● Step 3: On the next page, register to receive a User ID and a Password
● Step 4: After successful registration, complete the application form by uploading the necessary documents and making the appropriate payment

Students should keep scanned copies of documents ready before starting the process. Many applicants in the past reported delays due to file size issues or incorrect formats while uploading documents.

Candidates must provide all the details correctly and carefully. Some of the details cannot be changed once the application form is submitted.

Admission authorities often reject applications with incorrect information. Experts advise students to match details exactly with their official records, such as an Aadhaar card or school certificates.

IISERs prioritise early research involvement, immersing students in lab work, internships, and independent projects right from the start. Their adaptable curricula, combined with close faculty guidance and interdisciplinary study, empower students to tailor their academic paths to the latest scientific and technological fields, such as artificial intelligence, data science, and deep-tech research.

Many IISER students go on to pursue higher studies at top global universities or work in leading research labs. Some also join government research bodies or private tech firms in India and abroad.

IAT 2026 will be conducted as a computer-based test at multiple centres throughout India. This comprehensive examination will comprise 60 questions, with 15 questions allocated to each subject area: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Test-takers will have a total of 180 minutes to complete the exam. All questions will be multiple-choice, with only one correct answer per question.

Experts suggest that students should focus on clear concepts rather than rote learning. The exam often tests understanding and application, not just memory.

● Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks.
● Each incorrect answer will lead to the deduction of 1 mark.
● Unanswered questions will be awarded 0 marks.
● Therefore, maximum marks in IAT will be 240.

Teachers advise students to avoid blind guessing due to negative marking. A balanced strategy, where students attempt only questions they are reasonably sure about, has helped many candidates score better in past exams.
