Anderson backs Broad

Stuart Broad received a disappointing record on Day 2 of the fifth Test against India at Edgbaston on Saturday. However, veteran England pacer James Anderson supported him.

Jasprit Bumrah scored 35 runs in Stuart Broad’s one over by hitting him for four boundaries and two sixes in one over while six runs came as extras.

Captain Bumrah began the game’s 84th over by hitting a boundary and hooking him into the gap for four runs. He then bowled a miscued delivery that resulted in five wides.

Unexpectedly, Broad’s subsequent ball was a no-ball that was hit for a six. Following that, Bumrah wreaked havoc by hitting him for three straight boundaries, pushing India’s total above the 400-run threshold.

The Indian captain continued to knock another six in the second-to-last ball of the over before hitting a single on the final ball. Bumrah scored 35 runs by hitting Broad for 29 runs plus an additional six runs.

When taking his 30th wicket in Test cricket, Anderson admitted that he lacked luck and that Broad’s over wouldn’t have been in question if one of Bumrah’s shots had fallen into the fielder’s hands.

“Yes, unfortunately, it is one of those things. One of those top edges goes right to hand on another day. If that is taken, nobody discusses the above “stated James Anderson at a press conference following the game.

“It struck me as being really unlucky. There are a few nice shots and a lot of top edges, but Ben wanted Broady to stick with his strategy. Broady persisted, and if Stuart had had better luck on another day, an edge likely would have come his way “Added he.

When asked about how challenging it is to bowl to tailenders, England’s all-time leading wicket-taker recalled how Mohammed Siraj tried to hit him for a maximum.

“To be honest, there are occasions when it is simpler to bowl at bats in the top order. I do recall Siraj receiving a few balls, two of which he attempted to knock off of the ground while the other played flawless forward defence. Against them, finding a rhythm can be challenging. You only need to believe that ultimately your best ball will get them out “Added he.

The fifth and final Test between England and India took place at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, and the English hitters continued to battle against Jasprit Bumrah’s deadly pace, finishing at 60/3 at the close of the second session.

At the conclusion of the last session, England was still in trouble at 84/5.

At the end of the day, Jonny Bairstow (12*) and Ben Stokes (0*) were at the crease and England’s total in their first innings read 84/5. Earlier in the day, India was dismissed for 416.
