India Vs West Indies Day 2
Jaiswal set records on his Test debut, surpassing those of Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, an accomplished left-handed batsman, made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in Dominica. Jaiswal had amazing tenacity on the opening day of the game and finished unbeaten on 40 runs. On Day 2, he seemed poised to reach his first Test half-century. Jaiswal set records on his Test debut, surpassing those of Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar.
Jaiswal had a superb first-class average of 80.21 in 15 games prior to making his Test debut.
The other two openers who scored a century on debut are Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for India.
On day 2 the track was not very good to bat and hence we saw very restrained and resistent Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. You need to have lot of temperament, patience, concentration and skills to bat on such wickets. Both the openers not only passed the initial hour of the day but also scored centuries.
Rohit got out on 103 just after scoring his century.
The new #3 who came on to take the crease was Shubhman Gill, however, he could bat long and was out on just 6 runs. King Kohli then joined to the debutant Yashvi and both remained unbeaten till the end of the day.
Yashvi was unbeaten on 143 and Kohli on 34.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who was miffed at not making the World Test Championship final, made a good recovery in the first Test against the West Indies, however. According to ICC rankings, Ashwin, who is now the top-ranked Test bowler, claimed five wickets for 60 runs in 24.3 overs.
West Indies were bowled out for just 150 runs in 64.3 overs as a result of his outstanding effort and Ravindra Jadeja’s stats of 3/26 in 14 overs.
A strong opening partnership of 80 runs was built by skipper Rohit Sharma (30 not out, 65 balls) and debutante Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 not out, 73 balls) with plenty of time still left for batting. As they entered the second day of the contest, this cut the first innings deficit to 70 runs.
