India-Japan Partnership Steps Up With Major Investment Plan

Newz Daddy Political Updates

First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Ishiba for his kind words and warm welcome.
I found that Prime Minister Ishiba comes from Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and has focused Japan’s diplomacy strongly on regional stability and high-tech cooperation.

Our discussion today was both productive and purposeful. We both agree that as two major economies and vibrant democracies, our partnership is very important not only for our two countries, but also for global peace and stability.
India and Japan have a long history of strategic cooperation, underpinned by shared democratic values. Their joint efforts often stress contributing to a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.

Strong democracies are natural partners in shaping a better world.
This reflects how India and Japan often align in international forums like the Quad, climate change negotiations, and global supply chain resilience.

Friends,

Today, we have laid a strong foundation for a new and golden chapter in our Special Strategic and Global Partnership. We have set a roadmap for the next decade. Our vision focuses on investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, health, mobility, people-to-people ties, and state-prefecture cooperation. We have set a target of 10 trillion Yen investment from Japan in India over the next ten years. We will also give special attention to connecting Small and Medium Enterprises and Start-ups from both countries.
Yes — both sides have officially announced a target of 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment over the coming decade into India. The goal reflects deepening ties and confidence from Japanese firms. They also plan to strengthen linkages between Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and startups in both countries, aiming to boost innovation and cross-border collaboration.

At the India-Japan Business Forum too, I urged the Japanese companies to “Make in India, Make for the world.”
That “Make in India, Make for the world” pitch echoes earlier efforts to attract foreign companies to set up manufacturing or innovation hubs in India, leveraging India’s skilled workforce and improving regulatory ease.

Friends,

Our Joint Credit Mechanism is a big win for energy. It shows that our green partnership is as strong as our economic partnership. In this direction, we are also launching the Sustainable Fuel Initiative and Battery Supply Chain Partnership.
*The “Joint Crediting Mechanism” (JCM) is a bilateral framework for sharing emissions-reduction credits. It allows Japanese firms to deploy clean energy technologies in India and earn credits, while also helping India access advanced low-carbon tech. This helps both countries meet their climate goals more affordably.
India and Japan have worked together under an “India-Japan Clean Energy Partnership” for years, exploring renewable energy, sustainable hydrogen, and decarbonization technologies. They are now expanding cooperation into electric vehicle battery storage, green hydrogen, and sustainable aviation fuel.

We are launching the Economic Security Cooperation Initiative. Under this, we shall move forward with a comprehensive approach in critical and strategic areas.
This builds on recent global trends, where nations are increasingly concerned about securing supply chains in semiconductors, critical minerals, rare earths, and digital infrastructure. India and Japan have earlier agreed to work together to ensure more resilient and trusted supply chains for critical technologies.

Cooperation in the area of High Technology is a priority for both of us. In this context, Digital Partnership 2.0 and AI cooperation initiatives are being undertaken. Semiconductors and rare earth minerals shall remain at the top of our agendas.
Digital Partnership 2.0 aims to deepen collaboration in digital technologies, data connectivity, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Both countries are also keen to cooperate in semiconductor manufacturing and in the responsible sourcing of rare earth minerals—a vital resource for electronics and clean-energy technologies.

Friends,

We believe that Japanese technology and Indian talent are a winning combination. While we are working on high-speed rail at one end, we are also making rapid progress in areas like ports, aviation, and shipbuilding under the Next Generation Mobility Partnership.
India and Japan have long collaborated on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, a flagship initiative. Beyond rail, India has been expanding cooperation with Japan in port modernisation, airport infrastructure, and shipbuilding, under various mobility and logistics initiatives. Japan’s know-how, combined with India’s scale and ambition, is seen as a model for next-generation infrastructure development.

We welcome the agreement reached between ISRO and JAXA for cooperation in the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Our active participation will symbolise the progress of humanity beyond the boundaries of the Earth, and into space!
Yes, ISRO (the Indian Space Research Organisation) and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) have agreed to cooperate on space missions, including potential joint lunar missions. This shows how far the bilateral cooperation has grown, from Earth-bound infrastructure to space exploration.

Friends,

Under the action plan of human resource exchange, over the next five years, both sides shall encourage an exchange of 5 lakh people in different fields. 50,000 skilled Indians will actively contribute to the economy of Japan, under this.
This initiative responds to demographic challenges in Japan and India’s strength in skilled human resources. The target of exchanging 500,000 people reflects growing trust and the need for greater cross-border mobility for students, researchers, professionals, and skilled workers.

The partnership between India and Japan shall not be limited to Delhi and Tokyo. Our engagement will deepen through institutional cooperation between the States of India and the Prefectures of Japan. This will open new doors for trade, tourism, education, and cultural exchanges.
This “State-Prefecture cooperation” model has already been used in previous India–Japan agreements. It helps local governments in India and Japan co-operate directly on specific projects—such as tourism promotion, sister-city relationships, educational partnerships, cultural festivals, and trade delegation visits.

Friends,

India and Japan are fully committed towards a free, open, peaceful, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
Both countries regularly emphasise their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific — a shared vision against coercive behaviour, with respect for international law, freedom of navigation, and the rule of law. This has led to joint naval exercises, policy coordination, and cooperation in maritime security.

We have shared concerns towards Terrorism and cybersecurity. We also have shared interests in the areas of Defence and Maritime Security. We have jointly decided to further strengthen our cooperation in the fields of Defence Industry and Innovation.
India and Japan have held regular dialogues on cybersecurity, defence industry cooperation (including transfer of technology, joint R&D, and capacity building), and maritime security. These dialogues are increasingly tied to innovation, including exploring new technologies for surveillance, communication, maritime domain awareness, and defence manufacturing.

Friends,

India and Japan’s partnership is rooted in mutual trust, reflects our national priorities, and is shaped by our shared values and beliefs.
Because both countries are democracies with similar values around the rule of law, pluralism and democratic governance, their partnership is often described as a natural alliance grounded in trust, predictability, and respect for international norms.

Together, we carry a common dream of peace, progress, and prosperity for our peoples and for the world.

Excellency,

Once again, I express my heartfelt gratitude for your friendship. And I cordially invite you to visit India for the next Annual Summit.

Arigato Gozaimasu.

Thank you
