“The Drop Catch That Changed Everything: Jos Buttler’s Redemptive Masterclass”
Newz Daddy IPL 2025 Updates
In IPL 2025 the match between RCB and GT was played at Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangluru where Buttler was inspired by “embarrassment” to score the game-winning half-century. In the game’s opening over, Phil Salt gave the GT goalie a straightforward opportunity.
Being bad is sometimes a good thing. In the opening over of the match between the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Jos Buttler gave up a straightforward opportunity to Phil Salt, which motivated him to improve as a batsman. Given that he had already averaged 94.66 versus these opponents since the 2022 Indian Premier League, the additional drive was probably going to result in something exceptional. In addition to returning the smile he seemed to have lost while captaining England in white-ball cricket over the past few years, it did so with a match-winning, undefeated 73 off 39 balls.
Buttler remarked, “I thought the bowlers did a fantastic job,” following GT’s 169-run restriction of RCB. “I think we would have been chasing a few fewer if we had fielded it a little better, including myself.
“I was quite ashamed, particularly after dropping Salty in the very first over the game. He is a risky player. The only thing that comes to mind is that I tried to put it up early, sort of like Herschelle Gibbs, who did it to Steve Waugh at the 1999 World Cup, but I didn’t even… It struck me in the chest just as I was putting on a glove. But I was fairly determined to try and score some runs because of that humiliation.”
Going backwards, Buttler’s previous six innings against RCB had been 100*, 0, 0, 106*, 8, 70*. When he batted on Wednesday night, this was the version of him that hit five fours and six sixes. Not the one that gave up the captaincy of England following a poor Champions Trophy performance.
“I was trying to play with lots of freedom, lots of intent,” he stated. “I had a few months of pretty unenjoyable cricket, so trying to make sure I’m out there giving my best, and obviously a new team, new franchise, and excited to be here.”
Although Buttler is playing a different role here at No. 3 than he did at the Rajasthan Royals, where he had a very successful run opening the batting, it appears to be working. Buttler was signed by GT for INR 15.75 crore in the November IPL auction. With 166 runs with a strike rate of 172.91 so far this season, he is the third-highest run-scorer.

With two victories from three games, GT is now ranked fourth in the IPL 2025 points standings. On April 6, they will travel to Hyderabad to play Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The last year’s defending Champion KRR is at the bottom of the table due to Net Run Rate with one win and two losses.
KKR and SRH will be facing each other again after their last meeting in the final of IPL 2024 where KRR was victorious and became the champion. This match is going to be played in the home ground of KKR at Eden Garden Kolkota.
