Kshitij Dholakia’s Tribute to Urvashi Dholakia

Kshitij Dholakia Pays Emotional Tribute to Mother Urvashi Dholakia on ZEE5’s Maa Hai Na

Television actor Urvashi Dholakia, known to millions of viewers for playing Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, received an emotional tribute from her son Kshitij Dholakia during a recent episode of the Hindi reality series Maa Hai Na on ZEE5.

The programme, hosted by actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, centres on relationships between mothers and their children. Celebrity participants appear alongside their mothers in cooking challenges, games and conversations that explore family life. The series premiered on ZEE5 on 12 June 2026 and features several well-known personalities from Indian entertainment.

In a special segment focused on expressions of gratitude, young celebrity participants were invited to write letters to their mothers. Kshitij Dholakia’s message to Urvashi Dholakia stood out for its deeply personal account of the sacrifices she made while raising him and his twin brother, Sagar.

Speaking directly to his mother, Kshitij reflected on the contrast between her public image and her role at home.

“Mom, people have seen you as a strong and strict woman on screen. Some people just judge you on the basis of that one character which you portrayed years back. But, I am the luckiest son in the world because I have seen your real side and having a mother like you won’t be possible for anyone.”

The remarks referred to Urvashi Dholakia’s portrayal of Komolika, one of Indian television’s most recognised antagonists. First introduced in Ekta Kapoor’s long-running drama Kasautii Zindagii Kay, the character became a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s. The role brought Dholakia widespread popularity and established her as one of television’s most recognised faces.

Away from the screen, however, Urvashi Dholakia’s personal story has often attracted attention for different reasons. She became a mother at a young age and raised twin sons largely on her own while continuing to work in the television industry. Over the years, she has spoken publicly about balancing professional commitments with parental responsibilities.

During the episode, Kshitij highlighted those years of struggle and the decisions his mother made for her family.

“At the tender age of 17, when everyone is dreaming, you gave up your whole life for us. You gave up on your education and sacrificed your dreams only for Sagar and me. The world might only see your success, but I can see the struggle which you never told us about while enduring. You haven’t just raised us, you taught us to live. Wherever I am and who I am today, it is because of you. You are our mother and father for us. I will always be indebted to you, but I would always want to have you as my mother in every life.”

The statement moved fellow participants and added a personal dimension to a programme built around family relationships. While celebrity reality shows often focus on competition and entertainment, Maa Hai Na places greater attention on family stories and shared experiences.

The episode also drew attention to a subject familiar to many Indian households: the role played by single parents. According to various studies on Indian families, single mothers frequently face financial pressure, social expectations and the challenge of balancing work with childcare. Public figures who share such experiences often become points of identification for viewers facing similar circumstances.

Urvashi Dholakia’s journey has unfolded in public view over more than two decades. After becoming a household name through television dramas, she continued to build a career across reality shows and entertainment projects while raising her sons. Her story has often been discussed as an example of persistence within an industry known for demanding schedules and uncertain career paths.

For many viewers, the significance of Kshitij’s tribute lay in its focus on unseen effort rather than public achievement. His comments centred less on awards, fame or career milestones and more on everyday responsibilities that are rarely visible to audiences.

The episode arrived at a time when family-focused reality programming continues to attract viewers on streaming platforms. Indian digital services have increasingly expanded beyond scripted dramas and films, adding unscripted formats that focus on relationships, cooking, comedy and personal stories. Programmes featuring parents and children have become a recurring theme because they connect with audiences across age groups.

Maa Hai Na follows this trend by bringing together celebrity families in a kitchen setting where conversations often become as important as the challenges themselves. Participants include actors, television personalities and social media figures appearing alongside their mothers. The format combines food-based tasks with discussions about childhood memories, family traditions and personal experiences.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who hosts the series, guides participants through the challenges and discussions. The show also features a mix of humour and emotional moments, with family members sharing stories that may not have been widely known to the public.

For Urvashi Dholakia, the episode provided a rare opportunity for viewers to see a side of her life that differs sharply from the powerful characters she has portrayed on television. Although audiences may remember her for dramatic roles, Kshitij’s words focused on her years as a parent and provider.

His description of her as “both mom and dad” reflected the experience of many children raised by a single parent. The phrase captured the central message of the episode: recognition of the sacrifices often made quietly within families.

As reality television continues to evolve, moments such as these show why programmes built around personal stories remain popular. Viewers may tune in for familiar faces, but it is often the real-life experiences behind those faces that leave the strongest impression.

Maa Hai Na is currently streaming in Hindi on ZEE5.
