Nissan TEKTON Arrives With Features That May Surprise Buyers

Nissan Launches TEKTON SUV in India as the Brand Steps up its Comeback Plans

Nissan Motor India has unveiled the all-new TEKTON, a mid-size C-segment sport utility vehicle that the company says will play a central role in rebuilding its position in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The model made its global debut in India, with introductory prices starting at Rs 10.49 lakh for the T160 manual variant and Rs 14.99 lakh for both the T280 manual and T280 dual-clutch automatic versions.

The launch comes as Nissan works to expand its SUV range in one of the world’s fastest-growing car markets. India has become an important production and export base for the Japanese manufacturer, and the TEKTON is the second new model introduced by the company in 2026 as part of its renewed product strategy. The SUV will be built at the Chennai manufacturing plant and exported to markets across the Middle East and Africa under Nissan’s “One Car, One World” programme. Industry reports have also noted that the vehicle shares its engineering platform with the latest Renault Duster, reflecting the long-running Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The C SUV segment has become one of the most competitive parts of the Indian car market, with established rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. Nissan hopes the TEKTON will help it regain market share after the success of the Magnite compact SUV and the earlier discontinuation of the Kicks.

The new vehicle draws much of its styling from the Nissan Patrol, one of the company’s longest-running SUV nameplates. Exterior features include C-shaped LED headlamps, connected LED tail lamps, a wide chrome front grille, sculpted body panels, roof rails and a ground clearance of 212 mm. Nissan has also included a claimed class-leading boot capacity of up to 700 litres.

Inside, the cabin features a tri-tone colour scheme with beige, burgundy and rose gold accents, leatherette upholstery, soft-touch materials and dual digital displays. The driver gets a 10.1-inch infotainment screen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Google built-in services allow direct access to Google Maps, Google Assistant and more than 200 supported applications through Google Play. The MyNISSAN app adds over 55 connected vehicle functions.

Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support, dual-zone climate control with voice assistance, 48-colour ambient lighting, an Arkamys 3D audio system, wireless phone charging and an air purifier with Plasmacluster ioniser and air quality display.

Nissan is offering two turbo petrol engines across the entire range. Buyers can choose the Turbo T160 or the more powerful Turbo T280. The T280 produces up to 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque and is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed wet clutch dual clutch transmission with an electronic gear selector. Nissan says the T160 returns fuel efficiency of 19.4 kmpl, while the T280 delivers 18.5 kmpl. Both engines use Mirror Bore Coating technology, first developed for the Nissan GT-R, to reduce internal friction.

The suspension has been tuned for Indian roads, while dual drive modes and adjustable steering settings allow drivers to change steering weight and driving characteristics through the infotainment system.

Safety remains a major selling point in this segment, and Nissan has equipped the TEKTON with six airbags as standard across all variants. The SUV also uses a body structure made with 62 per cent high-strength steel and includes more than 40 standard safety features. Its advanced driver assistance package offers over 17 functions, including adaptive cruise control with stop and go, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert. Parking support comes through a 360-degree camera system and a 3D Around View Monitor.

During the launch, Guillaume Cartier, Chief Performance Officer, Nissan, said, “We are building a stronger and more competitive Nissan in India. As we continue to strengthen our SUV-led portfolio and sharpen our market focus, the World Premiere of the all-new Nissan TEKTON reflects our ambition to combine global product strength with deep local relevance. TEKTON is a clear expression of how Nissan is transforming with purpose – towards a more competitive, future-ready portfolio.”

Massimiliano Messina, Chairperson of Nissan’s AMIEO Region, said India is becoming an increasingly important manufacturing and export hub for the company. Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President and President for the Middle East, KSA, India and CIS, described the model as an important addition to Nissan’s SUV portfolio, while Nissan Motor India Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa said the vehicle reflects the company’s stronger focus on products, dealership expansion and changing customer expectations.

Bookings for the TEKTON have opened across Nissan dealerships and the company’s digital sales platforms. The range extends from the Rs 10.49 lakh VISIA T160 manual to the top specification TEKNA+ T280 DCT priced at Rs 18.59 lakh.

For Nissan, the TEKTON represents more than another model launch. It marks a renewed attempt to strengthen its presence in India’s highly competitive SUV market while using the country as a manufacturing base for customers both at home and overseas.
