In the comedic drama “Frendo”, four pals who are all unemployed and enjoying life to the fullest are the protagonists. Their credo? Do nothing at all. Living it up to the fullest, these four pals are happy to sit tight and let life unfold as it may. One of them, Kana, falls madly in love with Radhika and makes the decision to marry her, which disrupts their carefree existence. The truth, which they had all evaded until now, must now be confronted by him.
The movie “Frendo” gives a very strong message to youngsters and to society as a whole, “Never Speak lie to in your life.”
The Story
The movie follows a group of friends as they go about their daily lives, laughing and hanging out and refusing to do what society considers “responsibility.” But when Kana’s feelings for Radhika deepen, he is confronted with a predicament that tests his optimistic perspective. But there is a catch, the father of Radhika is of a demanding nature, he thinks that “Kaano” must own a land and flat and also has big plans to visit abroad. So there comes one lie from the Kaano and then a series of lies comes one after the other. The entry of Baablo Don, played by Om Bhatt, comes in as a villain and makes things more complicated for everyone which leads to a sequence of comedy. The narrative beautifully depicts the power of love to make even the most carefree people question their decisions in life. Full with irony, the story is eccentric, entertaining, and unique. It is entertaining and thought-provoking to compare doing nothing with doing something out of love.
The names of the characters are also used very nicely “kaano, laalo, jigo, bako, baablo” etc. which shows the writer’s creativity and thoughtfulness.
The Acting: An Energetic Ensemble of People
Tushar Sadhu as Kaano: Playing the role of the endearingly slothful protagonist Kana, Tushar Sadhu is the film’s beating heart. As he struggles to cope with the weight of love’s unexpected commitment, his acting is both endearing and believable, thanks to his inherent charisma. His depiction of a man conflicted between his carefree lifestyle and his feelings for Radhika is genuine and moving.
Twinkal Patel as Radhika: The one who sets Kaano on her path to self-discovery, is played by Twinkal Patel. Despite having less screen time, she gives a performance that is poised and driven. Patel gives a composed and convincing performance as Radhika, the embodiment of the grounded reality that Kana and his companions had eschewed for so long.
Jay Pandya as Bako, Kushal Mistry as Jigo, and Deep Vaidya as Laalo: The film’s comedy and friendship are supported by the performances of three actors: Deep Vaidya as Laalo, Kushal Mistry as Jigo, and Jay Pandya as Bako. As the carefree, unemployed pals who provide constant comic relief, Pandya, Mistry, and Vaidya are fantastic. Together, they have perfect chemistry, and they all add something special to their parts. The three of them manage to keep things light and entertaining with their clever one-liners, Jigo’s ridiculous pranks, and Laalo’s dry humour. The repeated phrase of Kushal Mistry (Jigo) “તો પછી બેસણું કયા રાખીશું ? is used at the very right moment and very right manner.
Jaimini Trivedi as Kusum and Prashant Barot as Vaasu: Prashant Barot and Jaimini Trivedi plays the serious and honest parents of Kaano, their seriousness keeps on adding more humour points to the story which is great treat to watch.
Ragi Jani as Utpal and Om Bhatt as Baablo Don: Ragi Jani playing the role of the father of Twinkal Patel, whoc wants the best things for his daughter, his role as father who is always skeptical and demanding. Ragi Jani is a serious actor and has played his part with utmost fluency and efficiency. Om Bhatt is playing as Baablo Don also contributes to the cast with his performance. The entry of this character adds more fun and fear both at the same time. He is awesome as Baablo Don.
The Writer and Director:
The hilarious adventure of “Frendo” was conceived by writer and director Vipul Sharma. The repetitive phases of Jigo and Mama “તો પછી બેસણું કયા રાખીશું ? and “કેમ હૂ માણસ માં નહીં આવતો? are used in such a way that compels the audience to laugh aloud. It’s just awesome writing Vipul, awesome.
Sharma shows great skill as both writer and director in creating a picture that deftly mixes comedic elements with subtle themes of friendship and the importance of appreciating the little things in life. His storytelling is both humorous and deep, drawing the audience in and making them feel connected to the characters’ struggles, situations, comedy and emotions.
The chemistry between the actors is brought out by Sharma’s direction, which makes the comedy feel very natural instead of forced. His innovative style makes Frendo a fun ride by balancing the film’s comedic and emotional elements.
The Cinematography
The cinematography of Sreekumar Nair brings a lively and aesthetically pleasing element to the movie “Frendo”. Nair expertly conveys the film’s light-hearted mood with his lighting, colour, and composition choices. Nair enriches the narrative by her use of broad vistas, which emphasise the protagonists’ carefree existence, and close-ups, which highlight their emotional moments. His cinematography elevates the comedy by enhancing the humorous timing with visually captivating sequences, immersing the spectator in Frendo’s vibrant world.
The Screenplay
The script is spot-on, with clever lines and funny moments that mirror the pals’ carefree way of life. The group’s rebellion against conventional standards is reflected in the intense debates. While Kana’s love story helps set the scene, it doesn’t steal the show from the group’s witty banter and good times. Without being sanctimonious, the film’s cheerful tone keeps viewers engaged.
Positive Points
- The script and dialogues: It’s a funny and original idea to celebrate being unemployed and doing nothing as a way of life. I would highly appreciate Vipul Sharma for writing such nice dialogues which are spoken in our daily lives.
- Relatable Characters: Everyone is familiar with at least one person who shirks duty, and these four characters are no exception. You can relate to and laugh at the characters.
- Humour: Even when the protagonists have to make weighty decisions in real life, the film maintains a light-hearted tone and that adds an abundance of comedic moments.
- Performance: As for the performances, the leading actors’ great connection really brings out the film’s humorous timing and tragic parts.
- The Message: The movie gives a very strong message to youngsters and to society as a whole, “Never Speak lie to in your life because one lie will follow a series of lies one after the other and that will make your life difficult and you will lose the trust of your loved ones.
Negative Points:
- Romance: There could have been more romantic scenes between Kaano and Twinkal. this is my personal opinion.
- Character Development: Characters don’t develop much beyond Kana’s storyline.
- Music: Music plays a very important role in every moment and adds more excitement and laughter to the film. The background score does not create more excitement which lacks more flavour.
The Conclusion
“Frendo” offers a charming and original perspective on the lives of four carefree friends who defy societal norms. A joyous ode to sluggishness, mirth, and love’s surprising strength. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted, humorous film with heart, you could like it despite its leisurely pace and absence of substantial conflict.
