Review of the Bollywood movie “Kesari Chapter 2”.

Friends, let me tell you from the start that watching this film makes it clear that some stories are meant to be told again and again. The story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre should be told repeatedly from generation to generation. I just watched the movie, the story of which I have read and heard numerous times in books and seen many times on screens—we cannot feel the same pain as the relatives of the people who died in Jallianwala Bagh felt that day. This film makes you feel that pain.

The film playing in the theatre is called “Kesari Chapter 2”. The first 10 minutes of the film are very impactful. In its climax, Akshay Kumar’s monologue and his restlessness are exceptional and will give you anger and pain and will show Akshay Kumar’s potential.

It is believed and said that the British left India, but they left behind the word “Sorry”. I say, how could they leave even with a sorry?

The story of the film is not something that needs much explanation, but it is based on the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” written by Pushpa Ji and Raghu Ji. Nair was the only Indian member of the British Viceroy at that time. In 1919, saddened by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he wrote a book called “Gandhi and Nair,” in which he criticised Dyer. In response, Dyer filed a lawsuit in the London court, where Nair had to defend his case.

The biggest strength of this film is the courtroom drama, where many things come out that we probably never knew before—how low and biased the British Empire was. The British Empire held the case in the London court but still gave General Dyer a win, even after such a big massacre. I say “gave” because the British Empire was exposed many times in this case, but to save its honour, it let Dyer win. This shows the biased approach they had during their rule.

They also destroyed important documents to hide the Jallianwala Bagh incident, which, if available today, the world would be condemning the Britishers. Despite all this, Britain has never given an official apology. How could they, when they left behind only their sorry?

Talking about performances, Akshay Kumar is seen after a long time in a role that you will enjoy watching. From his arguments to his emotions, everything is visible on screen. The transformation in Shankaran Nair, fighting the case for the crown and then against them, is well shown in the film.

Opposite him, R. Madhavan’s acting is also excellent. His cold looks and expressions elevate many scenes in the courtroom drama, sometimes even surpassing Akshay Kumar’s performance. You start hating the person who stands in court defending the most brutal and inhuman massacre in history.

Ananya Panday, playing Shankaran Nair’s assistant, also did well. Surprisingly, with the few scenes she got, she performed them seriously and properly.

Amit Sial’s work is also good. Many dialogues in the film will impress you, especially the one in court about right and wrong, and how the decision is about winning and losing.

The music is powerful, and the sound design is good. Maybe it was the theatre’s sound system, but whenever the beats played, it gave me goosebumps.

At the beginning of the film, Akshay Kumar’s dialogue will be felt by you at the end as well.

Overall, this film is a must-watch for youngsters to know the history of India and understand the pain they suffered from the cruel and brutal Britishers. This film is for those who want to see the Jallianwala Bagh massacre from a new angle.

If you have seen it, do tell how you liked the film. If you are going to watch it, do write your thoughts too.
