For the 2019 season, the Big Bash League will use a draught system to choose international players. Through the draught system, teams must select a minimum of two and a maximum of three players. The draught is anticipated to happen during the next two months with nominations still being accepted.
The players are eligible for nomination in the Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories. With Platinum selected as the highest bracket, each category will have different payment.
BBL further clarified the suggested procedure as follows in a statement:
order in draught
A weighted lottery will be used to determine the Draft order.
The first weighted lottery to determine selections one, two, and three will include the three clubs that did not advance to the KFC BBL|11 Finals.
The five winners from the previous season will then be chosen for choices four through eight.
draught phases
There will be four rounds in the draught, with one pick for each Club.
Clubs are permitted to skip some rounds, but by the end of round four, each Club must choose a minimum of two and a maximum of three participants.
The draught order for Round One, which is exclusively open to Platinum players, will be determined by the methods described above. Rounds three and four will go in a different order after round two, which will be conducted in the same order as round one.
Choosing Retention
One Retention Pick may be used by each team in any round of the Draft.
If a player played a game for that Club the previous season, they are eligible for retention.
Total players and substitutes
There will be 18 players on each Club’s BBL team, with two or three coming from the Draft and the rest being domestic players.
Clubs will be permitted to sign up to five replacement foreign players after the Draft. To be a qualified replacement foreign player, a player must have declared for the Draft, unless the League grants exceptions.
