Movie Review: Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri
So, there’s a new film called Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday in the lead roles. The title is so long that you twist your tongue while saying it, and you feel lazy even typing it as a hashtag on Twitter! Even the short form of the title is quite long TMMTMTTM! But tell me, does having such a long name make any difference to the story or presentation of the film? Does a long title make it special or extraordinary? Let’s talk about that.
It’s not that today’s love stories are boring. But after watching this film, I now understand why today’s generation moves so fast; they prefer physical closeness before valuing relationships. First, have a hook-up, spend time together, have fun, travel, and become physical. And once all that happens, if some emotional feelings wake up, then think about marriage or the future. The moment one person mentions marriage, the other gets scared, “Oh no! Does this mean spending my whole life with one person?” No wonder many relationships today feel so toxic.
The Storyline
Here we have one boy and one girl. They meet abroad. They fall in love well, at least that’s how it’s shown, but it looks like it was written just to attract Gen Z viewers. Nothing feels convincing. For example, the boy says he is married, and still, the girl is ready to be physical with him. What logic is that? And in between all this, when did they fall in love? In just four days, the boy decided, “Yes, she is the one.” There was no strong reason for them to love each other. They met, hooked up for no reason, and then started thinking about love. What message are you giving today’s generation?
Then comes the second half, it’s like covering all the mistakes of the first half and learning from them. The first half feels more Gen Z-oriented, while the second half feels like it belongs to the 90s. The first part shows the mindset of the young generation, while the second half focuses on family emotions and their importance, and that part actually works. The second half is much better than the first one. But was it practical? Not really, I can’t explain that part because it would be a spoiler. You can go and watch it if you like; no problem. But I’ll just say the film can entertain you, but only in a dreamy way. You may end up thinking, “I wish someone would do such things for me, too.”
It’s a rom-com that keeps you engaged but doesn’t convince you. I know today’s youngsters might like it because the film’s target audience is them. The songs are good too. There’s a ’90s mashup in the second half during a wedding scene, and that works well. Some jokes land perfectly, while others are just time pass. Some emotional scenes hit hard, but again, that lack of conviction shows up. For me, it’s quite a 50-50 film. Overall, it’s just above average, nothing more.
So, from my side, I’d give this film 3 out of 5 stars. There isn’t too much vulgarity, but there are kissing and bikini scenes, which are fine for today’s audience. Go and watch it if you wish, and decide for yourself.
