Wagh Bakri SIPZ Instant Chai Launches with AI Digital Campaign
Wagh Bakri Uses AI-Led Campaign to Promote New SIPZ, Instant Chai
Wagh Bakri Tea Group has introduced an Artificial Intelligence-based digital campaign to support the launch of its new Wagh Bakri SIPZ Instant Chai, a ready-to-drink instant tea product aimed at people looking for a quick cup of tea while travelling, working or studying.
The Ahmedabad-based tea company said the campaign is built around a simple consumer observation. Many people spend long hours away from home but still want a cup of tea that reminds them of the taste they enjoy at home. The campaign carries the message, “Urgency Can Wait, But Chai Craving Can’t,” and introduces a digital character called “WB SIPZ Man”, whose appearance is inspired by the product’s packaging. The campaign shows that consumers can prepare the beverage by adding hot water to a SIPZ sachet.
The launch comes at a time when India’s packaged beverage market is changing quickly. Urban lifestyles, longer travel times, growing numbers of students living away from home and the expansion of office culture have increased demand for products that can be prepared in a few minutes. Instant coffee has long been popular in this space, while instant tea has remained a smaller category. Industry reports have shown that ready-to-prepare beverages are attracting greater interest as consumers seek products that balance convenience with familiar taste.
Wagh Bakri said SIPZ Instant Chai has been introduced with a ₹10 price point, making it affordable for students, office workers, travellers, small businesses and professionals who may not have access to freshly brewed tea during the day.
Paras Desai, Executive Director, Wagh Bakri Tea Group, said, “For over 130 years, Wagh Bakri has evolved with changing consumer preferences while staying true to its legacy of quality and trust. ‘SIPZ Instant Chai’ offers consumers the familiar taste of Wagh Bakri in a travel-friendly format. This new AI-powered campaign of ours reflects our commitment to embracing technology to create meaningful consumer experiences without compromising our core values. The initiative reflects the company’s vision of embracing emerging technologies to create more engaging and relevant brand experiences.”
Artificial Intelligence is becoming an increasingly common tool in advertising and marketing. Many companies now use AI to assist with concept visualisation, animation, editing, content production and campaign planning. Marketing experts note that while AI can reduce production time and costs, creative direction, consumer understanding and final decision-making continue to depend on people. Several consumer goods companies in India and overseas have started testing AI-assisted advertising over the past two years as the technology becomes more widely available.
Gaurav Parashar, Chief Marketing Officer, Wagh Bakri Tea Group, said, “Instant Chai is one of the fastest-emerging beverage categories, driven by consumers seeking convenience without compromising on the comfort of ‘Ghar Jaisi Kadak Chai.’ At Wagh Bakri SIPZ, we are expanding the category through our ₹10 SKU, making Instant Chai more accessible to emerging cohorts such as students, young professionals, travellers, offices and small businesses. Our latest digital campaign, ‘Urgency Can Wait, But Chai Craving Can’t,’ reflects this evolving consumption behaviour. By leveraging Artificial Intelligence, we’ve accelerated creative execution, enabled fresh storytelling and created more meaningful consumer engagements”
The campaign has been developed with creative agency AHA (ThatsAHA Consulting LLP). According to the agency, Artificial Intelligence allowed the creative team to produce ideas that might otherwise have required larger budgets, multiple shooting locations and longer production schedules.
Sushobhan Chowdhury, Founder, AHA (ThatsAHA Consulting LLP), said, “For years, ambitious ideas were often held back by production constraints: locations, art direction, cinematography, time, and cost. With AI, many of those barriers have disappeared, especially for digital storytelling. The ideas still come from human intelligence; AI simply removes the production blockers. Wagh Bakri SIPZ is a great example of that. It allowed us to bring an ambitious creative vision to life without compromising the original idea. We’re proud to have partnered with Wagh Bakri on a campaign that embraces new technology while staying true to the craft of storytelling.”
The company plans to release the campaign across digital and social media platforms as part of a wider marketing programme for SIPZ Instant Chai.
Founded in 1892, Wagh Bakri Tea Group is among India’s largest packaged tea companies. From its headquarters in Ahmedabad, the company has built a nationwide distribution network and exports tea to several international markets. According to information released by the company, it records an annual turnover of more than ₹2,400 crore and distributes over 60 million kilograms of tea every year.
India is the world’s second largest producer of tea after China and is also one of the biggest consumers of the beverage. Tea remains a daily drink for millions of Indian households and supports employment across farming, processing, packaging and retail. The organised packaged tea market has expanded steadily during the past decade as consumers increasingly choose branded products that offer consistent quality and safety.
Digital advertising has also become a major part of marketing strategies for consumer goods companies. Industry analysts say brands are directing a larger share of their promotional budgets towards online platforms because they allow campaigns to reach specific groups of consumers and measure audience response more quickly than traditional advertising.
For Wagh Bakri, the SIPZ campaign represents an effort to combine its long history in the tea business with changing consumer habits and newer production technologies. Whether AI-led campaigns become common across the food and beverage sector will depend on how successfully companies balance faster content creation with authentic storytelling that connects with consumers.
