Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India- Pursuant to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of strengthening India’s sports culture and revival of our civilisational values and ethos, RRU is organising the 4th National Armwrestling & Para Armwrestling Championship 2026 jointly with the Armwrestling Federation of Gujarat and the People’s Armwrestling Federation India from 29th May to 2nd June 2026 at the Gandhinagar campus. This landmark event marks the first time the university has hosted such a prestigious national competition on its campus in Lavad, Gandhinagar, drawing over 2,000 athletes representing 27 states.

During the inaugural ceremony on 30 May 2026, there will be the participation of key figures from the sport, including Ms. Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People Arm-wrestling Federation India (PAFI); Mr. Praveen Dabas (Owner of the Pro Panja League); and representatives from the Arm-wrestling Association of Gujarat (ASAG), specifically General Secretary Mr. Rajender Singh Parmar and Treasurer Mr. Mayank Patel.
The scale of this year’s championship reflects the growing popularity of the sport in India. Building on the success of the 3rd PAFI National Arm-wrestling Championship held in Thrissur, Kerala, which saw 1,700 athletes from 25 states, the upcoming event at RRU is projected to host more than 2,000 athletes representing 27 states. Participation data indicate a strong regional turnout, with the North-Eastern states leading the contingent with approximately 350 athletes, followed by Kerala with 289, Uttar Pradesh with 140, and the host state of Gujarat with 105 athletes. The event underscores RRU’s commitment to encouraging physical education and sports excellence on a national stage.
