Dhanji, a well-known hip-hop artist from Ahmedabad, has once again succeeded. His latest CD, “Drive-In Cinema 2.1,” uses music to capture the vibrant pulse of the metropolis. Growing up in Ahmedabad, Dhanji spent a lot of time at the well-known Drive-in Cinema in the city. Dhanji absorbed it all as a child and is now returning the favour to the city where he grew up through his music.
“This CD is honest and unvarnished. At its core, it’s freestyle. It’s directly from the streets where I was raised,” Dhanji remarked. “It’s the new voice of Ahmedabad’s youth—it’s not just music.”
Rasla produced the album, which blends contemporary sounds, lyrical storytelling, and freestyle rap. Although each song has a hint of Ahmedabad, they are all new and international.
