IndiGo, India’s preferred airline, and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), the country’s largest private airport operator, have announced a strategic partnership enabling IndiGo BluChip members to earn on duty-free shopping across AAHL-managed airports.
The action is part of a broader trend in the aviation sector where airport operators and airlines are collaborating to enhance the traveller experience. Numerous international airlines provide loyalty programs that reward travellers not just for flights but also for lodging, shopping, and other travel-related activities. This change includes IndiGo’s BluChip program. The airline intends to keep customers interested in the brand even when they are not making reservations by rewarding them with duty-free purchases.
For every ₹100 spent on duty-free items pre-booked through the Adani portal, members can earn 5 IndiGo BluChips under the collaboration. Before leaving, travellers can peruse, book, and pay for items online. They can then quickly pick them up at the airport.
In recent years, airport shopping has seen a significant transformation. In the past, travellers had to dash through stores just before boarding. Digital duty-free platforms are now available at numerous airports worldwide, enabling travellers to browse merchandise in advance.
