In a heartwarming step toward empowering differently-abled individuals, the Wagh Bakri Tea Group, a household name in the tea industry for over 132 years, has partnered with the Blind People’s Association (BPA) to launch a unique livelihood project. This initiative was announced on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, highlighting the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
The project aims to enable individuals with disabilities to lead a life of dignity and independence. As part of the first phase, 25 beneficiaries from Ahmedabad, Kheda, and Mahisagar districts were provided with movable small shops and related kits to start their businesses. These beneficiaries underwent training to equip them with the skills needed to manage their shops successfully.
To ensure their sustainability, BPA will extend hand-holding support for three years, assisting them in overcoming challenges and building a steady income. This project is a step towards realizing the dream of a self-reliant or ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’
The launch event was attended by senior members of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group, including Executive Director Paras Desai, Directors Vidisha Desai, Malvi Desai, Priyam Parikh, and CEO Sanjay Singal, alongside Dr. Bhushan Punani, Managing Trustee of BPA. Their presence emphasized the importance of the initiative.
Speaking about the project, Sanjay Singal, CEO of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, expressed pride and gratitude, stating:
“Wagh Bakri Tea Group has always worked towards creating a meaningful impact on society. This project reflects our deep commitment to supporting differently-abled individuals. We believe this initiative will not only help them become self-reliant but also give them the confidence to lead a purposeful life. We thank BPA for their invaluable support in making this dream a reality.”
This initiative is just the beginning. Wagh Bakri Tea Group plans to extend the project to benefit 100 differently-abled individuals across Gujarat. By providing resources, training, and ongoing support, the program aims to create opportunities for self-employment and economic independence for many more beneficiaries.
The Wagh Bakri Foundation, the charitable arm of the company, has contributed Rs. 12 lakh to fund the project, underlining their commitment to social welfare.
Founded in 1954, the Blind People’s Association (BPA) has been a pioneer in empowering visually impaired and differently-abled individuals. The organization provides education, rehabilitation, counseling, and employment opportunities, ensuring that people with disabilities are included in mainstream society.
As one of the largest organizations of its kind in Asia, BPA continues to make a lasting impact on countless lives. This partnership with Wagh Bakri Tea Group is a testament to their dedication to fostering inclusivity and empowering the differently-abled community.
This initiative is not just about providing resources; it’s about instilling confidence and fostering independence among differently-abled individuals. The project reflects a shared vision between Wagh Bakri Tea Group and BPA to build a society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has access to opportunities and support to thrive.
As this project grows, it sets an inspiring example of how businesses and organizations can collaborate to create meaningful social impact. It is a reminder that small steps, when taken collectively, can lead to transformative changes in society.
