2022 International Dog Day: It is observed on August 26 to commemorate the number of dogs that require rescue each year. The primary goal of International Dog Day is to mobilise the public to recognise the various dogs that require rescue each year.

2022 International Dog Day:

The day encourages people to adopt dogs rather than buy them from pet stores. International Dog Day is observed on August 26 to honour these incredible animals who work tirelessly to provide comfort, keep us safe, and save lives. The day also raises awareness of the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year by pure breed rescuers, rescues, and public shelters.

We are all aware that dogs put their lives in danger every day. They safeguard our safety and liberty by detecting drugs and bombs, as well as rescuing victims from wreckages and tragic situations. Dogs are also family members; people keep dogs in their homes, and they have special places in our lives.

Date of International Dog Day 2022

Every year on August 26th, the world celebrates International Dog Day. Colleen Paige’s family had adopted their first dog, a ‘Sheltie,’ on this day.

History of International Dog Day

Colleen Paige, a Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Rescue Advocate, Conservationist Dog Trainer, and Author, founded the day in 2004. He is also the creator of several other holidays, such as National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day, and National Cat Day, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of animals around the world and encourage adoption.

The 26th of August was chosen as the date Colleen’s family adopted her first dog “Sheltie” from the local animal shelter. Colleen was ten years old at the time.

The Importance of International Dog Day 2022

The holiday is observed by all dogs, whether purebred or mixed breed. The primary goal of the day is to mobilise the public to recognise the various dogs that require rescue each year.

The holiday also recognises all family dogs and dogs who work tirelessly to save lives and keep us safe. They protect our families and homes for their law enforcement partner, their blind companions, the disabled, and our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs, and they assist us in locating and rescuing accident and tragedy victims.

Dogs vary by breed, age, and size. “Labradors love to chew, so chew toys would be ideal; Border Collies are a highly intelligent breed, so puzzles and obstacle courses would be ideal.” “Try activities like swimming or following commands to see what piques their interest,” he concludes.

Pet health: Ten foods you should never feed your dog

Chocolate ranks first on the list of toxic foods for pets!

When it comes to your dog, food can be tricky. One must ensure that the food given to their pet dogs is nutritious. Sometimes people believe that human foods are compatible with their pet’s diet, but this is not the case.
Human foods can be harmful to your pet. Such food items can be harmful to their pet’s health and growth.

Caffeine, chocolate, and coffee

Chocolate ranks first on the list of toxic foods for pets. Aside from chocolate, coffee and caffeine contain a substance known as methylxanthine. Methylxanthine can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, panting, excessive urination or thirst, hyperactivity, tremors, seizures, abnormal heart rhythm, and even death in cats and dogs. The darker the chocolate, the greater the danger.

Raisins and grapes

Grapes and raisins are highly toxic to dogs and cats, causing kidney failure. Even small amounts can be lethal.

Nuts

While xylitol-free peanut butter made from de-husked peanuts is safe for dogs, other nuts are not. Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, and pecans are high in fats and oils. In cats and dogs, excessive fats can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, and even pancreatitis. Macadamia nuts are also toxic to dogs, causing vomiting, weakness, depression, hyperthermia, and tremors.

Dairy products and milk

Although some cats and dogs can digest small amounts of milk, giving milk to pets is not recommended. The reason for this is that dogs and cats lack the enzyme lactase, which is required to digest milk. Dairy and dairy products can cause diarrhoea and other digestive problems.

Onions, garlic, and chives

Ingestion of these ingredients can cause gastrointestinal problems as well as anaemia and red blood cell damage. Cats are more vulnerable than dogs, but dogs can be affected if they consume a lot of garlic, onions, or chives.

Eggs, undercooked/raw meat

Raw meat and raw eggs are frequently contaminated with dangerous bacteria such as salmonella and E.coli, which can cause serious health problems. Raw eggs contain avidin, an enzyme that can cause skin and coat problems in cats and dogs.

roasted bones

Many pet parents believe that giving cooked bones is preferable to giving raw bones. Cooked bones, on the other hand, can splinter and injure your pet, whereas raw bones are usually safe.
