On March 11, the film The Kashmir Files was released in theatres. The film is set in 1990 during the Kashmir insurgency and stars Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty.

The Kashmir Files had a phenomenal opening weekend at the movie office, grossing Rs 3.55 crore on its first day. Despite the odds, massive numbers flocked to the theatres on the third day to see the film. It even outperformed other films currently showing in theatres in several areas. While The Kashmir Files had a limited release, the number of screens and shows has since been raised due to popular demand. The total number of screens on Day 3 was 2000. On Saturday, the picture saw a significant increase in its box office receipts, rising from Rs 3.55 crore on Friday to Rs 8.5 crore on Saturday. According to reports, Vivek Agnihotri’s film made Rs 14 crore on Day 3 of its release.

The film depicts the harsh sufferings of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, during the unrest in Kashmir. Pushkarnath is played by Anupam Kher, Brahma Dutt is played by Mithun Chakraborty, Krishna Pandit is played by Darshan Kumar, Radhika Menon is played by Pallavi Joshi, Shraddha Pandit is played by Bhasha Sumbali, and Farooq Malik nicknamed Bitta is played by Chinmay Mandlekar. Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Vivek Agnihotri are producing the film through their Zee Studios, IAmBuddha, and Abhishek Agarwal Arts banners.
