History Created! Cricket World Cup Comes Home!
25 Years of Hard Work Pays Off; Team India Are The World Cup Champions!
Winning the World Cup created history. The daughters of India also set a special record. Be it Deepti Sharma or Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India dominated everywhere. That’s why they created a flurry of records. By defeating South Africa in the final, they did not just win the World Cup, but the daughters of Team India have registered their names in those pages of history, which was a dream for years.
Note down the date, Nov 2, 2025, in your personal diary; it was a great day for Indian cricket, comprising men and women both. India beat Australia in the third T20 match in Hobart, Australia. At the same time, Indian girls beat South Africa in the women’s ODI World Cup final.

Smriti Mandhana said after the match that “the entire team of 37 people, including the support staff, had sleepless nights for 45 days. Each day they dream of lifting the World Cup, and today that dream has actually come true. For the last 45 days, they have lived with this dream of lifting the trophy and making India proud.”
The proud captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team said that the entire team believed that they would win the final before the match started. We were very confident and after the first innings, we all 11 players said, “let’s give everything to these 50 overs, what we have, let’s give everything, this is the final moment, and we do not want to lose this moment. We have to win for our former players and for our future players. We have to win!”
Actually, India has won the World Cup for the first time, and it is a historic victory. In 2005 and 2017, Team India had to face defeat in the final. That was the time when Team India was strong but could not win the World Cup. The one regret remained in 2005. Then they also lost in 2017.
But finally, the team won the title in 2025. This title came under the captaincy of Harmanpreet, and Harman also set records because she won the World Cup at the age of 36 years and 239 days. She became the oldest player to win the title as a captain in the Women’s World Cup, creating history.
The dream that was being seen for years was fulfilled by Harmanpreet. Shafali Verma was chosen as the Player of the Match for her all-round performance. Imagine, Shafali Verma was not even in the team. Prateeka Rawal gets injured, and Shafali is called, and she does this miracle. She played an innings of 87 runs in the final and also took two wickets, which is why she was chosen as the Player of the Match. She achieved this feat in the World Cup final at the age of 21 years and 279 days.
Team India became the winner after losing three matches, and this is very rare. If we look, this also happened in the 1992 Men’s World Cup when Pakistan won the title, and England also did something similar in 2019. But this is happening for the first time in the Women’s World Cup.
Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs and took five wickets. She became the first cricketer to do this in the World Cup final. She became the second Indian player to do this in the World Cup overall. But if we look at the overall World Cup, she is the second player from India because Yuvraj Singh has done this (not in the final, but against Ireland).
Also, Deepti has 22 wickets and around 200 runs in the World Cup. By doing this, Deepti is setting another special record. That’s why Deepti was chosen as the Player of the Tournament. She is the first player in the history of the World Cup to do so.
So, many records were made. Harman won at the age of 36. Deepti gave a fantastic performance. Runs came from the bat, and she took more wickets. Shafali Verma also set records.
But if we look at some other records, Jhulan Goswami has taken the highest number of wickets for India in the Women’s ODI World Cup with 43 wickets. Deepti Sharma has 36 wickets now. Diana has 31 wickets. Neetu David has 30 wickets. Purnima Rao has 30 wickets.
If we talk about the highest wickets in a single edition of the World Cup, Lynn Pulston holds 23 wickets in 1982. Jackie Lord, a New Zealand cricketer, took 22 wickets in 1982. Deepti Sharma has got 22 wickets in 2025.
If we talk about the Indian Women’s team in ICC Events (T20 and ODI):
- 2000: Semifinal
- 2005: Runner-up
- 2009: Semifinal
- 2010: Semifinal
- 2017: Runner-up
- 2018: Semifinal (T20 World Cup)
- 2020: Runner-up
- 2023: Semifinal
- And finally, became the Champions in 2025.
Be it T20 or ODI, the players of Team India have finally got a sigh of relief because they have been working hard for almost 25 years. Teams changed, captains changed, players came and went, but no one could bring the title. But now, history has been made under the captaincy of Harmanpreet. The title is home. The daughters have made the country proud and set many records. This victory is not just a victory. This is a historic victory that has now been written in the pages of cricket.
Now, let’s see how much Women’s Cricket in India changes after this World Cup victory.
