The Sekhon IAF Marathon Ignites Patriotism And The Ultimate Spirit of Fitness
HEADQUARTER SOUTH WESTERN AIR COMMAND ORGANISES FIRST EDITION OF SEKHON INDIAN AIR FORCE MARATHON ON 02 NOVEMBER 2025 AS A TRIBUTE TO FLYING OFFICER NIRMAL JIT SINGH SEKHON PVC
Headquarters, South Western Air Command, Gandhinagar (HQ SWAC) successfully organised the first Edition of Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon on 02 November 2025. The marathon was held to commemorate the valour and legacy of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Sekhon, the only PVC awardee of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The Marathon was organised in three categories, namely 21 Km, 10 Km and 05 Km. Over 1,000 Air Warriors, families, school children, and citizens of Gandhinagar took part in the event. The event was flagged off by Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor SYSM PVSM, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), SWAC, from the Vayu Shakti Nagar campus at 0530 hours.
The marathoners displayed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, making the event a huge success. The event culminated at 0930 hours with the distribution of prizes. In his address, the AOC-in-C emphasised the importance of physical fitness in daily life for everyone, especially military personnel. He urged everyone to formulate a workout schedule and stick to it in order to remain physically fit and mentally agile.
The Sekhon Marathon was a befitting tribute to Flying Officer Nimal Jit Sekhon, who was known for his valour and love for sports. The event showcased the IAF’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork and patriotism.
