A Seminar to Celebrate Women’s Strength and Resilience
On Thursday, the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) was filled with hope and inspiration as it hosted ‘अहं शक्ति: A Movement for Women’. This empowering seminar aimed to recognize and celebrate the resilience, strength, and remarkable contributions of women from different backgrounds. Organized to uplift women, the event was filled with motivational speeches and moments of inspiration, leaving everyone in the room with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
The Remarkable Journey of Rachna Thakkar
One of the highlights of the seminar was a powerful speech by Ms. Rachna Thakkar, the founder of Rachna Salon. Her journey from a small village in Keshod taluka, Junagadh, to becoming a successful entrepreneur in Dubai is nothing short of inspirational. In 1980, Ms. Thakkar began her career by applying mehndi in her home in Dubai. Despite the humble beginnings, her talent and hard work eventually led to the establishment of 14 thriving salons across the UAE.
Today, Ms. Thakkar has not only achieved personal success but has also made a significant impact on the lives of over 2,000 women by helping them achieve financial independence through careers in the beauty industry. In her address, she emphasized the importance of supporting others on their path to empowerment, stating, “Empowerment is not just about lifting yourself, but also about lifting others. My journey has been about helping other women realize their dreams.”

Honoring Extraordinary Women
A significant part of the event was the recognition of seven incredible women who have made a lasting impact in their communities through their hard work, dedication, and sheer determination. Each woman’s journey was unique and demonstrated the indomitable spirit that women bring to their endeavors.
- Anjali Sorathia: A first-year college student and aspiring Chartered Accountant, Anjali had to pivot when her father’s footwear business struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. She quickly took over the reins by running a shoe business, selling slippers to support her family. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication were recognized at the seminar.

- Aarti Patel: Hailing from Pancheja village in Gandhinagar, Aarti turned a family crisis into an opportunity. When faced with a medical emergency, she started making and selling rakhis. Her business grew, and now she employs over 1,000 women in Gujarat who work from home.
- Mansi Sadira: Born with a small lung that caused physical limitations, Mansi never let that stop her from pursuing her passion for art. She now runs successful art, craft, and drawing classes, sharing her talents with children and youngsters while overcoming her challenges.
- Ranjan Panchal: Ranjan’s entrepreneurial journey started with homemade food, which soon expanded into a catering business serving 50-100 people per event. Her brand, Kesar Food, has become well-known in the area. Despite her success, she remains devoted to caring for her paralyzed husband, exemplifying strength and resilience.
- Madhu Dawda: For over six decades, Madhuben has served at the Pranami Dharma temple in Keshod. She has dedicated her life to preaching and serving her community, earning admiration and respect throughout the region for her lifelong commitment to religious service.
- Anita Mrig: Starting from humble beginnings where she supported herself by doing household chores, Anita discovered her talent for cooking and turned it into a successful business. Today, she is a thriving entrepreneur, using her skills to support her family financially.
Financial Assistance to Support Women’s Journeys
