Bumrah’s Magic Overshadowed Root’s Ton In Third Test Match Between India Vs England at Lords
On the morning of the second day of the third test match between India Vs England Bumrah did his job beautifully, and now it’s the batter’s turn. The English tail lessens the burning charm.
With the second new ball of the morning, India hit the target right away. Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah both had the ball move away and dart in on a regular basis. Ben Stokes was fortunate to escape a run-out, but Bumrah’s beauty bowled the England captain in the following over.
After reaching his 37th century, Root came next, and it appeared like the finish was in sight when Woakes went for a golden duck. However, Rahul’s regulation slip catch off Siraj meant that India was unable to get rid of Smith.
Smith spent another fifty years torturing India. After lunch, he and Carse put together 84 runs off 114 balls for the ninth wicket until Siraj removed them both, bringing England’s innings to a total of 387.

After Jasprit Bumrah completed his task, it is now up to the batters to complete theirs and give India a dominant position. Jaiswal was out early, though, as India got off to a poor start to their innings.
In Chris Woakes’ opening over, Yashasvi Jaiswal had gotten off to a spectacular start, hitting three boundaries. The opener then sneaked the slip cordon, and Archer managed to get one to seam away a little.
Jofra Archer’s first wicket drove the Lord’s crowd into a frenzy three balls into his comeback to Test cricket after three exasperating years of isolation.
Yashasvi Jaiswal hit three fours in the first over of Chris Woakes and had gotten off to a spectacular start. The opener then sneaked the slip cordon, and Archer managed to get one to seam away a little and Jaiswal got out in the first over of fiery Jofra Archer.
It was time for Archer to enjoy the benefits of his hundreds of hours spent in rehabilitation. Jasprit Bumrah had swept through the England middle order in the morning session until Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse’s late fight brought their innings back to life.
Nair and KL Rahul, who combined for 61 runs for the second wicket, helped India bounce back as well. After a valiant forty, Nair was caught at first slip by Joe Root’s excellent one-handed low catch. TV replays later verified that it had been taken cleanly, only inches off the turf.
Shubman Gill showed his class again but was unfortunately dismissed when he was on 16. Gill was caught behind by Jamie Smith. Rahul went to stumps undefeated at 53 after holding the innings together. Along with Rishabh Pant, he is largely responsible for India’s aspirations of approaching England’s 387.
Discussion of Dukes
Gill asked the umpires to change the second new ball just 10.3 overs into its use, demonstrating India’s persistent dissatisfaction with the Dukes ball. I think Gill was not right on this tactic of changing the ball, as Bumrah was getting enough swing and had already taken 3 wickets in the morning.
Gill was unhappy with the ball and spent the whole morning drinks break with umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula.
However, they didn’t have to put up with it for very long. The umpires did change the ball after eight overs. The experts do suggest that the Dukes company should work on their balls and see that the new ball should last till 80 overs and must not lose its shape in just 8 to 10 overs.
