IPO Advisory: Valora Targets India’s Gems and Jewellery Sector

Valora Advisors Enters Gems and Jewellery Sector with IPO Preparation Services

Ahmedabad, October 3, 2026: Valora Advisors has launched an advisory service for India’s gems and jewellery businesses, with a focus on helping manufacturers and retailers improve their financial systems, company management and readiness for a possible initial public offering (IPO).

The new service comes as jewellery businesses face growing demands for financial transparency, proper records and stronger management practices as they expand. Many Indian jewellery companies have grown from family-run operations into businesses with large manufacturing units, retail chains and overseas customers. Preparing such companies for the stock market can require major changes in the way they operate.

Valora Advisors plans to help business owners understand what changes they may need before exploring a public share offering. Its approach covers company assessment, improvements in business operations and preparation for a possible listing, subject to market conditions and regulatory rules.

The advisory team includes Govind Verma, Founder and Chief Mentor; Sanjay Shah, Advisor; Mohan Lalwani, Legal Advisor; Kalpesh Dave, Advisor; and Chintan Shah, Chief Analytics.

The service follows a three-stage process called “ASSESS. PREPARE. ACHIEVE.” It is intended to give business owners time to review their companies and address gaps before approaching the capital markets.

India’s gems and jewellery trade has a long history of family ownership and skilled craftsmanship. Many companies have built their businesses over several generations, relying on customer trust, manufacturing knowledge, local markets and established trading networks.

As these businesses grow, their management needs can change. A company that once relied on a small group of family members to make decisions may need formal reporting systems, clearly defined responsibilities and professional management as it expands into new markets.

Financial records are another key area. Companies considering a public listing must meet applicable disclosure and compliance requirements. They may also need to review their corporate structure, internal controls, financial reporting and governance practices.

These requirements can take time to meet. Businesses that begin preparing well before an IPO application may have more time to identify weaknesses and make changes without rushing the process.

Govind Verma said the industry had built strong businesses through entrepreneurship, expertise and generations of experience. He said professional systems, governance and planning would become increasingly important as companies entered their next phase of growth.

He added that an IPO should be treated as the result of business preparation rather than the first step. Companies need suitable systems, financial discipline, governance and the ability to expand before approaching the stock market.

Under the ASSESS stage, Valora Advisors will review a company’s finances, operations, legal structure, governance, compliance and business plans. The aim is to identify areas that need attention before the business considers a public offering.

The PREPARE stage will focus on making those changes. This may involve better financial reporting, updated company structures, stronger internal processes and clearer management responsibilities.

The ACHIEVE stage covers work towards a possible IPO. Valora Advisors says it will coordinate with SEBI-registered intermediaries and other professional advisers. Any public offering will depend on the company’s eligibility, regulatory approval requirements and market conditions.

India’s stock market has become an important source of funds for companies seeking to expand. A public listing can help businesses raise money by selling shares to investors. It can also allow existing shareholders to sell part of their holdings, depending on the structure of the issue.

However, an IPO comes with responsibilities. Companies must share accurate financial and business information with investors and follow rules set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). They also face regular reporting requirements after listing.

For jewellery businesses, these steps can be demanding. Their operations may involve gold purchases, diamond sourcing, inventory management, manufacturing costs, retail sales and overseas trade. Keeping accurate records across these activities is essential when preparing financial statements and answering investor questions.

Sanjay Shah of the Jewel Maker Welfare Association said jewellery companies had built a strong base through family ownership and entrepreneurship. He said better financial systems, documentation, governance and management practices could support business expansion.

He also referred to opportunities in new markets, technology, retail growth and institutional funding. Such changes may require businesses to review how they manage money, staff, stock and long-term investments.

India’s jewellery trade has a strong presence in both domestic and international markets. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) maintains trade figures covering exports and imports, reflecting the industry’s role in international commerce. A recent report in The Economic Times, citing a NITI Aayog programme director, placed India’s share of global gems and jewellery exports, excluding raw gold, at 8%. The figure points to the country’s existing position in the international market, while also raising questions about how businesses can expand their reach.

The growth of organised jewellery retail has also changed the way companies compete. Large chains have expanded their store networks, while smaller family businesses continue to serve local customers. The World Gold Council has documented this shift, including the growing presence of corporate retail chains and the challenges smaller retailers face in stock management, funding and product differentiation.

For businesses considering a stock market listing, size alone may not be enough. Their financial records, company structure, business performance and ability to meet regulatory conditions will all matter.

Valora Advisors says its service is designed to start well before the IPO stage. This gives business owners time to review their operations and decide whether raising funds through the stock market fits their plans.

The company has placed its work under three broad areas: Capital, Strategy and Growth. Its new jewellery-sector service will focus on reviewing businesses, improving professional management and assessing their readiness for possible capital-market activity.

There is no guarantee that companies using the service will go on to list their shares. The decision will depend on each company’s financial position, business needs, regulatory eligibility and market conditions.

For India’s jewellery businesses, the launch reflects a growing need to understand the requirements of public markets as companies expand beyond their traditional family-run structures. The coming years will show how many enterprises choose to make that change and whether they can meet the demands that come with public ownership.
