Ishita Joshi Table Tennis: Third Place at Jamnagar Event

DPS-Bopal student Ishita Joshi finishes third in Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament

Ahmedabad school student Ishita Joshi has secured third position in the Under-9 Girls category at the 3rd Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2026, held in Jamnagar from July 31 to August 2.

Ishita, a Grade III student of Delhi Public School-Bopal, Ahmedabad, competed at the state-level tournament and finished among the leading players in her age group. Her result gives the young player an early state-level ranking in a sport that demands quick movement, close control and the ability to react within fractions of a second.

The tournament brought together young table tennis players competing in age-based categories. For players in the Under-9 group, such events provide an opportunity to compete beyond their school or local sporting circles and gain experience against players from other parts of Gujarat.

Ishita’s third-place finish was reported by DPS-Bopal following the Jamnagar tournament. The school said her performance reflected her skill, determination and sporting spirit. The result also adds her name to the school’s growing list of students who have competed successfully in table tennis at district and state levels.

The achievement comes as table tennis continues to have a regular place in the sports programme at DPS-Bopal. The school’s published sports information includes table tennis training covering basic grip, forehand and backhand practice, service, backhand push, forehand chop and game rules. These activities are part of the school’s physical education programme.

DPS-Bopal has also recorded several table tennis results in recent years. Its official achievements page lists Rachit Shah finishing third in the Under-15 Boys category at the second Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament held in Gandhidham from June 27 to 29, 2025. The same record notes his participation in another state ranking tournament in Vadodara later that year, where he again finished third in the Under-15 Boys category.

The school has also reported achievements by younger players. In November 2025, Grade II student Anayara Maniyar finished third in the Under-11 Girls category at the KMK Ahmedabad Rural District Level Table Tennis Tournament in Ahmedabad and was selected for the state level.

These results point to a continuing presence of school-age players from DPS-Bopal in competitive table tennis. For a Grade III student such as Ishita, the Under-9 category provides an important stage in learning how to handle competition at an early age.

At the state level, the sport is administered in Gujarat through the Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA). The association says it was established in 1962 and is affiliated with the Table Tennis Federation of India. Its stated purpose is to develop and promote table tennis in Gujarat.

The state ranking system gives young players a route into organised competition. Gujarat’s tournament calendar has included state ranking events in cities such as Bhavnagar, Gandhidham, Anand, Jamnagar, Vadodara and Surat. The 2025 calendar, for example, included a Jamnagar event organised by the Jamnagar District Table Tennis Association at the JMC Sports Complex.

The wider state table tennis circuit also includes competitions for several age groups. Results published by GSTTA in 2025 included Under-9 titles, showing that players in this age range are already taking part in competitive state events.

For Ishita, the Jamnagar result is therefore more than a school sports record. It places a young Ahmedabad player in the state competition system at an early stage of her sporting career.

Her third-place finish also gives her experience of playing in a larger competitive field, where every match can bring a different style of play. At this age, repeated exposure to such tournaments can help players understand match pressure, scoring and the demands of playing against unfamiliar opponents.

The result has also added to the recent record of table tennis achievements associated with DPS-Bopal. The school has previously reported state-level performances across different age groups, including both boys’ and girls’ events. Its records show that table tennis has remained part of the school’s competitive sports activities over several years.

Ishita’s performance in Jamnagar now gives the school another young player to follow as she continues in the sport. The Grade III student’s third-place finish in the Under-9 Girls category marks her latest state-level result and could form an important part of her early competitive record.
