Shalby Hospital Naroda has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of its first kidney transplant, showcasing the hospital’s specialised healthcare capabilities. The hospital chain behind this, Shalby Hospitals, is known in Gujarat and beyond for strong transplant programmes and a success rate of around 95% in kidney transplants.
The recipient, Kalpesh Patel, 37, had been battling chronic kidney disease for several years. Since 2022, his kidney function had been gradually deteriorating, and by January 2025, it had fallen to less than 10%. Despite undergoing dialysis thrice a week, his health continued to decline, and his heart function had dropped to 25%, making his condition critical. In India, many patients with end-stage renal disease (kidney failure) require dialysis or transplant; statistics from leading centres show rising transplant numbers in Ahmedabad and Gujarat.
